Thread Topic: So I heard some people say.
-
That's like saying all geese have always been gay. They die out. Because if you don't convert, when all of you hippys get elderly the religion dies.
-
People have kids that they force to be religious.
-
Like I said before.....
Parents can't force their children into religion once the children are old enough to decide for themselves. But they raise them with the religion they would like them to choose.
Just like they raise them to be kind to people, because that's how they want them to turn out when they're older. But that's not shoving kindness down their throats, is it?
Also, whatever you believe in your heart is your religion, not what your parents believe, even if that's what you tell everyone. -
If I raise a child telling them one thing over and over again their entire lives and teaching them to never question what I've been telling them, I may not be forcing them to adhere, but it is a form of brainwashing.
The way you treat others and your religion are not interchangeable (even though your church would like to tell you otherwise). There are a million different ways you can help teach someone empathy and morality that would never require instilling a fear of a deity.
And I highly doubt that if you had never heard of the Christian religion, that you would have magically come to the conclusion that 5,000 years ago a woman was tricked by a talking snake in to eating a cursed fruit.
Your religion is nothing more than repeating what you've been told to believe since birth.
The only way to truly decide for yourself is to abandon everything and start over from an unbiased standpoint. And that requires recognizing when and what in your brain is the product of your life long brainwashing. -
Well parents kinda have the right to say what they want to their children. Just saying. If that's how they want to raise them, you any really do anything about that.
And anyone I think that would be...I don't want to say cruel...not to raise your children with the religion you believe in. Because then they go out in the world and they're lost. At least that's how I would feel ._. -
Can't* (not any)
Anyway* (not anyone) -
Would being trained to follow a religion your whole life without ever questioning it be as sincere as coming to the conclusion yourself and actually having the chance to make the choice?
Honestly, I think an all knowing being would be able to tell the difference between blind faith, and a conscious decision.
So yes, I promote people to make their own choices. To start fresh from an unbiased standpoint. To go out and read in to other religions. See what they're about. Spend a single day on wiki-f---ing-pedia and find out how many other explanations there are for things you've been trained to believe "God did". Go out and learn. Expand your horizon. And then at the end of all that, you still feel beyond a shadow of a doubt that your God is the right one out of the countless millions out there, then at least you will have made a conscious choice.
I'm no deity by any sense of the word, but I think that if someone saw their options and still chose me, it would mean a lot more than someone who never questioned it. -
You have two options here....
1. Give me permission to disagree with everything you just said and possibly get pissed off due to my little rant.
2. Tell me to to shut up and leave this thread. -
If you can actually explain the logic behind your disagreeing, I'll hear it out.
-
Really, because I remember you telling me to stop basing my opinions on my religions and to speak for myself -_- Which would in no way be a logical argument.
-
Religion itself isn't based in logic and reason.
And if you can't actually support your opinion, then why have it? I can support my opinions. Almost anyone else on this site can support theirs. If you cannot support your opinion with any kind of logic what so ever, then why do you still hold it as your opinion? -
I just follow the bible, okay dudes? I'm sorry if that is just so horrible for you to believe but I'm going to put my input in and it is going to be based off the bible because that is my religion, okay?
For zero, nothing. Because zero equals nothing.
First of all.....Wikipedia? xD Please don't tell me you just said go research religion on Wikipedia. You don't have to agree with this, but I don't use "Wikif---ingpedia". I use the "holyf---ingbible".
Another thing is that I believe that religions are man-made so I don't even see a need for Wikipedia. You're either with God or you're with the devil.
So search religions, really? xD They're all man-made. You either choose to follow God or the devil.
But this is just what I believe. Just growing my opinion out there....don't attack me, people. If you disagree with me, just write that, don't go crazy. -

0. zero
1. Do you know the difference between wikipedia and the bible? Wiki at least has sources.
2. I've addressed this with the sith lord comment I made a while back. An all knowing, all powerful, all loving God who deals in absolutes sounds fallible as s---. And if all religion is man made, then why follow one at all? You tell people to read the bible, but yet you say that it's man made. What does that have to do with anything?
3. Your religion is man made too. How do you know that yours isn't following the devil?
I disagree, and I'm pointing out what parts I disagree with and why I disagree with them. -
Ok thanks for not attacking me :) Phew
I believe the bible is not man-made. All other books people call their bibles are. I don't consider my well religion a "religion". (Even though there's no other word for it I guess) I believe that I'm following God and anyone know is not is following the devil.
I can't even...the Wikipedia thing ties into what I just said; it's all man-made. So Wikipedia is full of man-made theories.
