In the middle ages many of the powerful nations were Catholic. The Catholic church was very strict and demanding. Many people who were not close to God worked in the church for power and respect. These people who do not follow God's word to not be violent, not be greedy, and not harm anybody, were false "Christians". They persucuted those who were sinful, but if that was true then they should have persucuted themselves. Everyone sins and no one is perfect. But we can always be forgiven if we truly turn to Him.
Anyways it should also be noted that even though the Catholic church persucuted many pagans and non-believers, they also persucuted tons of protestants who were a threat to their rising power. Most protestants were about freedom, not being dominated by one church, and being close to God and His word.
These days there are many people who say they are Christian but they do not know Christ. They do not know that God is loving and cares and wants everything that's best for us, that he would give us complete free will and sent his holy son for us. Some Christians think cursing or being hateful to the lost is good, but it's not at all! When Jesus was on earth he helped everyone. He saved a prostitute, he healed the lepers, he did everything through peace. He didn't tell his followers to rise up and kill the Romans or the bad church leaders. Even if you aren't Christian Jesus never did anything to cause such hate upon his name.
Yeah I wrote a long post about religion. If you don't like it whatever. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of expression. For everyone. I love you all, because you are my fellow human brothers and sisters. -

it isn't Christians people hate per sa
it's the fact that they are VERY intrusive. people are afraid of hell. and hopeful of heaven. no matter WHAT you say no matter WHO you are the Christians apply their rules to you. even an atheist as much as me, corpse or ellis is subject to a certain degree of terror mild as it may be. we are still forced to CONSIDER the existence of hell simply because Christians refuse to accept the fact that their "god" is/may be- real for them it is a fairy tail for someone else.
in simpler language- it's not because Christians are bad people, it's because they're belief is intrusive -
tongue ExperiencedI would say that organized religion does more harm than good, but it's reasonable to say that good people can operate within an evil institution.
