If your house is haunted it takes a series of investigations and research to determine that it is.
First, analyze what goes on in your house and see if you can logically explain it. If you cannot, then there is a possibility that your house is haunted. Don't stop looking for reasonable explanations though.
Second, do some research on the area and the home. Perhaps a past owner died there, there was a shooting outside the home, ancient Native American burial ground, or other stuff like that.
If both of these things raise suspicions for you, hire a professional paranormal investigator and/or a psychic/medium to check out the house for you. -
90% of psychics and mediums are conmen. And only go for a paranormal investigation team if they are free. Asking for pay destroys credibility. Or if you want to do things yourself. Buy an 8 dollar voice recorder from the local store and let it play over night. Then during the day, go over it. Maybe while it's recording ask some questions. See if you get responses.
I actually am a licensed paranormal investigator and everything we do, the average person could do on their own.
Things to check for:
-History of the residence
-Any medication you may or may not be taking
-How level the floor is
-wiring in the house
-Age, gender, and number of people living in the house
-Any pets
-outside influeces I.E, highways, trains, airports, ect.
All you or anyone else can do is investigate. And if after all of this you are still conviced that there is something, ask a volunteer team to come and check the place out. Make sure the members are credible and level headed. And if after all of this you are still convinced your home is haunted, get on with your life. It's not harming you. So let live with how things are. If it's residual, there's no talking with it. And if it's coherent, then it's probably just as confused and scared as you are. -

EMF levels are a good thing to check (I think that goes with bob's house wiring suggestion). From my understanding of it, EMF can send some kind of electrical waves through the air that can cause someone to feel as though he or she is being watched. Half the time that someone thinks there's haunting it turns out to be nothing more than EMF.
Also, to add to bob's level-headed volunteers statement (& I can see where he's right about getting volunteers because people who ask for money might only be in it for the money), make sure they come up with logical and reasonable explanations or check for those. They should even try to make recreations. They can't be, "Oh yeah, that door moved so its definitely a spirit," because it could just be a draft.
And if you get a medium like I previously suggested make sure that whatever he or she says actually makes sense. For instance, if he or she says a man named John Smith died there and is haunting the house, make sure a John Smith actually died there. Just to be on the safe side, don't tell him or her the address or let him or her see the house before giving the reading. I would suggest giving only your first name and personally picking the medium up from his or her home. Make sure whoever you choose is blindfolded while being brought to the house and while giving the reading. And like bob said, try getting a volunteer because they're less likely to be trying to get money.
