No, not the using 'retard' as an insult. I mean people born with mental disabilities. A lot of them are really sweet and just plain genuine. x3 If only we could be as innocent and honest as some of them.
A girl once looked confused in Wal-mart, then asked me where something was. When I showed her, she really smiled and said 'thank you'. People think they're stupid and annoying, but there's a soul in there, just as much as any of us.
Idk, but I wanted to bring something like this up. -
You haven't met the retarded kids I have. Alot of them are plain nasty. And frankly, I think it is a waste of time to pity them. I'm "mentally disabled", so to speak, I don't want people pitying me. Sorry, but I don't get warm and cuddly when a retarded person walks up to me. Retarded people are not dogs.

I agree with Ana. And why is it wrong to feel pity? Some of them will never be able to do anything on their own, or think for themselves.

I haven't told you guys this, but my brother, Jacob, has a mental and physical disability. He has cerebral palsy, which prevents his brain from sending the necessary signals to carry out certain actions. This, basically, impairs one side of his body. He goes to therapy to help reverse its effects. His hand used to be paralyzed a certain way but now he can change its position to a certain degree. It's degrading when people insult him just because of how he looks or how he acts. He really can't help it; it's not like he asked for these things. I admire those with mental disabilities because by fighting through, they ultimately show how strong they are. It's nice to see that others agree with me. It's really tough when you see all of the prejudice and hatred... They have souls, feelings, and emotions. They are so very intelligent and so very genuine and sweet.
About that, Tongue... Some people with disabilities can't accept themselves for who they are. They're used to being bullied and picked on, so to stay one step ahead they act nastily to others. They might not know what they're doing; some disabilities cause people who have them to lack a filter or a sense of right and wrong. I'm not excusing their behavior though. I'm just trying to clear things up a bit. Most of the time they don't deliberately act in ways to annoy or hurt other people. -
I don't give a s---. There are people who do that who aren't retarded. They're called a--holes. And who the hell ever bullies retarded kids? They're among the few people who can actually illicit sympathy from the worst of the worst.
-
They actually do get made fun of. A lot. And you would know that if you checked your facts. Why they make fun of them, because they're different or not 'normal'? Perhaps. But it's mainly because they feel the need to pick on someone who likely can't fight back.
I have to say, Rachel and Danni are adorable in choir. Danni has down syndrome I believe and I'm not sure what Rachel has but it causes her to stutter a lot when she speaks. Danni's always so happy and she goes up to Ryan and Hayden a lot and they find it cute too. They're nice and try to play along with what she says or does.
