Let's say you're shopping and you see that the thing you wanted only has one left. Before you go get to it, you hear someone "I really want that, but I think that person wants it." How would you respond?

"You can have it. I'll make do out of something else. Besides, it's not like I am going to die without it. I'd rather let you take it and have me content rather than start WW III over it."

I'd say go ahead and take it. The world isn't going to end if I don't have it. Besides, I'll look somewhere else for it.

I meant the other person can take it.

Saying, "Oh, you can have it. I don't really want it," even if I do really want it. It makes me happier to see the person have it than take it myself and know I deprived them of it.

You're walking in the park and you see a man with a three year old girl. -
i'd feel super freaking selfish for taking it so i'd just say "oh no go ahead! you can have it, i insist"

First situation... I'll reply back, "No, no, I don't want it. You're wrong, I've just passed by and only amazed by these things."
Second situation... I'll think that the man is her father and the girl is his daughter. Pretty simple. -

I would be real and take it for myself, it's the last one and whoever found it first gets it, oh well.

Obviously probably their child or potential family member or they could be baysitting them. Other situations, could be kidnapped. -
for the second situation, i probably wouldn't question it unless the little girl is struggling or obviously distressed, or is otherwise expressing that the man is someone she clearly doesn't know. then in that case, i might interfere

Second: If the girl and man are happy, I think how cute the little girl is, and leave them be. If the girl is struggling, and the man is not smiling at all, I would go over and ask what they were doing. If I saw he had kidnapped the girl I would call the police.

I'll take it for myself.
2nd situation :
I'd think that the man is the father of the kid. -
1st situation:
I'm very awkward. I'd probably stand there and stutter for a moment. Then, I would look at the object and feel guilty. According to what the object is, I'd give it to them or quickly take it.
2nd situation:
I'd probably wouldn't notice. -
Okay, so most people would let the other take it, good to know.
As for the second, it would seem to me if you assumed it was a family member, you're mind isn't as dark and you haven't had any traumatic expirences. But my hypothesis could be wrong.
