Made this thread cuz it's four AM and I had a nightmare and can't sleep. So.
I'm curious, what causes nightmares? Is there really anything that does cause them, or differentiates between a person having a good dream or a bad one?
And is there anything that explains what you dream about? Like, I know from some I've had it can be dreaming about stuff you really want, or stuff you're afraid of, but what about thosse totally random dreams where the yellow unicorn flies over the bald man and weird s--- like that? Is there any explaination for those sort of dreams? Just curious. -
I'm no scientist or anything, but over the years i've noticed a few things:
If your teacher gave you a five page essay that will make you pass that class
And you didn't do it because you don't know how to write like a fuking Mark Twain does
That little essay will follow you into your dream.
Which means if you're worried about something, that something will follow you into dream world.
If you watch or listen to something scary before going to sleep, i've noticed nightmares occur.
I sleep with ear buds in, so i've heard pretty much every song possible to sleep with. The surroundings around you affect your sleep.
So music and tv do play a role. -
Oh, oh and for random things
Idk, music kind of influenced that too.
And what you last saw.
Those things influence a lot of things. -
Jeeshan NoviceIf you want to get less nightmares then don't sleep in a cold bed or room. Sleep in warm and cozy bed.
Don't keep your mouth down while sleeping.
Think of fantasies and lol, I love nightmares. -
I think that many things cause dreams and nightmares but I think that being anxious or stressed out during a major part of the day afflicts what you dream. If you are worried about a major test that will decide if you pass to the next grade, then you will most likely have a nightmare about that. I think your emotions and your thoughts that you dwell on for a large amount of time during the day will most likely be present in a dream/nightmare.
Controversy to that, is for example: Planning a secret birthday party for your best friend. You will most likely have a good dream about that if you are really excited during the day before that. But if you start coming up with doubts, you might have a nightmare about the party going wrong.
That's what I think, but you can disagree with me,too. I wont be mad because everyone an think what they desire. But this is something I really do believe. -
Sorry, I forgot to read the next part of it.
When you have those completely out-of-the-blue dreams, it could be just because you might have creative ideas for events at school or anywhere else but have not shared them out loud, and the more ideas you get and don't share, they start accumulating and eventually it'll get to a point where they start getting mixed up and then you get those weird dreams.
That OR because you need a break from stuff like being bullied or having too much work to do. -
I usually dream about One Direction dying in a tour bus crash or plane crash. That's my typical nightmare, and I seriously cry when I wake up. It's terrifying.
I'm not Einstein, but you may have nightmares about what you fear the most. -
I usually have dreams about my favorite anime characters (seriously, I look at and think about Dangan Ronpa every single day), or nightmares about real life. Like, you know, me having to fly over a crowd of zombies to avoid them and eventually losing my flying powers, or being chased by something or being humiliated at school. What I think causes these dreams is what you experience or look at or think about the previous day. I dunno.

Dreams and Nightmares are caused by your brain's imagination but are derived from what you have experienced in your life.
Sometimes it is believed that Dreams and Nightmares are a way of your subconscious mind telling you something you did not notice (or more literally something your conscious mind failed to notice)
There may never really be a definite explanation to why we get dreams...Moderator -
I dream about flying, killing people, and whatever's going on in the real world.
-
Honestly, I wonder how people get those "predicting the future" type dreams...I've gad one and others I know have had them.

alex3000...
That was what I was talking about when I meant "your subconscious mind tries to tell you something your conscious mind did not catch"
The subconscious mind is powerful because it is very sensitive to the environment, it is like a natural 6th sense in that it is able to predict what may happen in the future and can relay that information back to you in various ways some include the common ways:
-Through futuristic dreams
-Giving hunches or weird feelings when something is wrong
then there are rare cases where the subconscious mind tells you in much more complicated ways:
-Visions or voices in your head
-Deja vu, the feeling of doing something before is to help you to prevent you from repeating what you think you didModerator
