Maybe there's some truth in that but I think you're a little naive to think it's not that bad. First its the feeling of being violated and intruded upon often by someone you don't know who you probably don't want near you let alone anything else.
Also imagine the feeling of helplessness, that you can't do anything and not to mention it probably hurts.
I haven't heard much of "I'd rather have died than been raped"..but you know...I think you're wrong mostly with all of that. -
Well they are practically steeling there body when they rape someone so I think that a woman or man has every right to be traumatized. I mean they are steeling something personal. Much like if someone were to come and cut your nose of in the middle of the night. How traumatized would you be if that happened?

Exactly..he comes across as sexist sometimes. Obviously can't put himself in a woman's shoes.

And your main response is that my reasoning is flawed because i like empathy. I'll remind you, empathy is a flawed perspective when dealing with this sort of question in a reasonable manner. And that this is a line of question designed to enhance our minds.
Obviously i dont want anyone hurt, and no matter what the reason (no matter how unreasonable) its not ideal for someone to be in pain -
But these first few responses are really precisely what im talking about. If its suggested that rape might not really have to kill people the way it does, theres a knee jerk reaction that first designs irrational comparisons, and then paints me as the villian. My question stands: why is that?
-
Well I think you can guess what I meant by that...women are the main ones who are raped and I presumed you were talking about women because you mentioned pregnancy. I can word it better if you want...can't you put yourself in the shoes of a woman OR man who was raped?
I agree, what wendee said isn't comparable, I don't know why she said that. But I don't think it is over sensationalised, I think it really can be traumatic. -
Of course i knew what you meant, im just trying to get you to think about your responses.
and i repeat, empathy is a flawed response because your asking me to react to an imaginary scenerio. Anything that happens in my head or your head #1 is irrelevant because we're speaking of sweeping masses of people rather than just ourselves and #2 a situation in your mind which 100% subject to your control is so far from reasonable evidence of something that its not worth discussing.
Whats fact is that it IS Traumatic. But given the overwhelming averages in how people respond to the topic, im givin to wonder why.
So let me rephrasthe question for you: can you find a reason why it should be traumatic to the scale it is, using rhetoric and reason? -
Have you ever been raped or traumatically abused?
-
Traumatically abused? Whats that supposed to mean?
-
emmajamme2 Newbietony, have you ever actually considered what it would be like for a man to walk up to you and stick his d--- in your a--hole? how do you think that would make you feel?
-
I'm taking Tony's side on this, sort of. While, yes, for a short period of time it's logical to be in pain or upset, it's honestly not much different than if somebody came up and beat the crap out of you. But you don't see people going to counseling for that.
-
Um, it kind of is. It's more personal for a start.

I think if youre going to question why we hate rape then you might as well question why we care about sex and the like so much. start questioning at the basics. why does the concept of virginity exist? why can't 11 year olds have sex? why is sex so taboo?
but I think ill run with james' point. we glorify sexuality.sex is the potential to create a lifeform. its something special and secret and we like to share it with people we love. and then someone takes the thing you've been conditioned to have strong emotions toward. -
I view it as any other form of assault. Only difference I can see is stds and pregnancy. The pregnancy bit can be easily stopped though due to abortion.
