In this day and age councillors, physiologists and doctors are readily available (for the majority of the time) and are more knowledgeable than in previous generations. Early diagnosis regarding mental problems should be inevitable and assistance in becoming accustomed to mental complications should be easily found and should be effective.
So why are an alarming number of teenagers falling victim to anxiety and depression? Is the world crueller than it once was?
Why do victims turn to self-harm? Do they feel isolated, alone? Why are they not given the support necessary for positive improvement when we have more councillors, physiologists and doctors?
(Anyone who suffers from anxiety and/or depression (or any other mental illness) is most welcome to offer their insightful knowledge. All comments are welcome. There is no right or wrong answer, I am merely asking for YOUR theory.) -
Its called being a teenager.

My Theroy on what causes my depression?

I think that simple unhappiness can cause it. That's the main reason. There may be child abuse, neglection, a state of mind, a condition, but all of these can lead to unhappiness.

Self harm?
Many may disagree, and it's not true for everyone, but just being emo itself. Many of the emos do it because, well, other emos do it too.
Now, don't get me wrong. Of course it isn't the only reason. Many might really do it to ease their emotional pain or for other reasons. But I doubt any of them would publicly talk about it. Something many of those emos do.
No offence to emos out there. Just be yourself. Screw these labels. -
Some people do it for attention. Others because they enjoy the pain. Some do it to escape the real world. Many different reasons.

Doctors don't do much. More often than not they can misdiagnose you, and the most they offer is medication that really isn't worth it.
Listen, I'll just give you my side of this. Depression is a real and true condition. I agree that there are many people who fake it, make it trend, or do it for attention, but there are people out there who truly have it and need help. It can be a chemical imbalance, often regarding low serotonin levels. It can always include environmental causes, such as a rocky life or something that has happened to affect that person to a high degree. It can even have roots in your family's genes. Both of my parents' families have histories of anxiety, depression, and other mental disorders.
It's one of those things that you'll never completely understand unless you go through it yourself. ._. It's hard for me to explain these things anyway. All I know is that it can be an extremely painful condition, it may come and go throughout life and generally it's just something you have to learn to deal with. If you have it and are struggling with it, please don't hesitate to tell me. I would do whatever I can to help because this topic is important to me. -
*also, not always

All this emo stuff has cropped up recently. So 1 emo starts being pathetic because say, they lost their DS. So they start cutting and eventually commit suicide.
Then some emo start cutting because say, their favourite actor pissed himself.
So a bunch of other emos start cutting their arms and slicing their genitalie for no reason but to copy other emos because they're hormonal like that.
Then all tis sadomachism to yourself becomes popular among emos. Emos start having a fashing of ripped arms and died black hair.
I call it cow complex. One cow jumps off cliff, the rest follow.
