tongue NewbieAs predicted, my prediction that the GOP wouldn't retake the House was incorrect. John Boehner is now Speaker of the House, which I find potentially hilarious rather than frightening. There were more new Republican governors than I thought there'd be- I didn't think Rick Scott would win in Florida, but Florida is a very conservative state. I feel sorry for the people who didn't vote for Scott who have to suffer through his reign. I've also heard that the GOP picked up 6 seats in the Senate, but I'm not sure. I know they have Indiana and Arkansas. I also heard that Lisa Murkowski came back to win in Alaska, which I'm very happy to hear.
I was kind of bracing for this, so I'm not totally blindsided. The next two years will be interesting at the very least. I'm very interested to see how Obama plays against the House. I'm still relatively optimistic, but that feeling could easily turn to anxiety by 2012. -
I was disappointed Nathand Deal won here in Georgia with so little oposition. Now we have to deal (pun not intended) with his crap for the next four years. God I why couldn't the Republicans have nominated Karen Handel and not this douchebag?
-
tongue NewbieI did check CNN's election map and the GOP took Senate seats in North Dakota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Pennsylvania, and I wouldn't be surprised if Washington gets called in their favor too.
Now I'm not so optimistic. It's pretty clear that America is on the GOP's side. I suppose I can take solace in that the GOP isn't going to govern very well and that maybe America will wake up and realize that conservativism is bad policy. The US just needs a little more time before real change can be made I guess. -
tongue NewbieMore or less.

tongue NewbieAs for Nathan Deal, it hardly matters what a person's ethical background is so long as their constituency agrees with their veiws. I think you'll recall, Joe, that Karen Handel lost the primary because she was thought to be in favor of gay marraige. Hate to say it, but in Georgia it's better to a corrupt scumbag than to think gays are real people.
-
Whoa, my brother lives in Georgia. It sucks over there. :\
-
Yeah I'll remember that tongue. I also think her being a woman may have had a negative impact on her too. Plus the people who endorsed her weren't as good as Deal's endorsments. Karen got Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, and Jan Brewer. Nathan got Mike Huckabee, who won this state in the 2008 Republican Primary for President, and Newt Gingrich, who is a fellow Georgia and will probably run for President.
-
tongue Newbie@Joe- How do you feel about Huck and Newt?
-
Mike Huckabee is all right I guess. I'm not so tight about the Religious Right and I feel like they hurt Republican Party and the Right in general. Newt Gingrich, except for the affair, I do like because he isn't affiliated with the Religious Right like Huckabee and Palin are.
