For those who aren't aware of what it is, please don't look at the images on Google.
This is what it is:
"Chick culling or unwanted chick killing is the process of separating and killing unwanted chicks for which the intensive animal farming industry has no use. It occurs in all industrialised egg production, whether free range, organic, or battery cage."
Basically, from what I've seen, they grind up baby chickens or leave them to suffocate in trash bags instead of just ending it quickly.
I think it's horrible. I used to have chickens that were all raised from chicks, and it broke my heart to see how brutally they were culled.
I understand having to cull baby chickens. Like, if you can't have any more roosters for whatever reason you have.
It would be much better to just end it quickly by snapping the neck rather than putting them on a f---ing machine and grinding them up slowly and painfully or leaving them to suffocate in a bag.
I am curious about y'alls thoughts though. -
(in case you're wondering, this is gacha_summer)
I have 25 chickens, 3 who are roosters. If that ever happened to any of my chickens/roosters, I would literally kill someone. I've actually had "family members" (I would never call them family in my life, they're terrible people.) who've joked about doing this to our chickens.
So yeah. I don't even like the idea of snapping their necks. That's how attached I am to them. My parents have talked about killing one of our roosters since he attacks us for no reason, but I'd rather not. -
This is horrible! Why are you even killing them in the first place? Snapping their necks is terrible, even more so for chicks but the other ways to kill them are revolting. I would look for a trusted farm that wouldn't murder the poor things if I had to get rid of them and hope it would have a better life.

😱 oml i just read this and now i'm traumatized
no way i'm giving my chicken nuggets and fried chicken tho... -
It's incredibly inhumane, they could at least develop a more decent way to cull the chicks, but even then it's so sad :( the meat industry is pretty messed up
-
I kinda understand snapping the necks, but I do NOT support it at all. But even then, I have a very small understanding of it.
Like
Just give the chicks away?? If you don’t have room for them, there may be farms that are open to taking them. Don’t f---ing kill them. There are people who actually want chicks.
I’m not sure if they do, but 4-H has livestock groups and whatnot. They probably would be more than happy to take some baby chicks. That’s where I got my first batch of chickens from.
But yeah. It’s really bad. There needs to be a petition of some sort to put an end to this because they aren’t even ending it quickly. At this point, it’s just for their own sadistic pleasure. -
C’mon.
Grinding them up?
Having them SUFFOCATE in trash bags??
I have a hard time believing that whoever came up with that wasn’t a sadist. Same goes for whoever supports it. -
i'm not gonna say anything much on the sadist comment bc uh... that's nasty, and not why they are killing them
if they give the chicks away, they will end up dying if not taken care of properly. if they are given to other farms, the other farm will likely do the same thing with them bc they most likely do not have they space to house them either, and there are not unlimited farms just lying around somewhere
some farms dye their male baby chicks bright colors and sell them for a few dollars to kids around easter time just to get rid of them, while knowing that they fumes from the dye will kill them if the kids don't. this is probably the worst way to get rid of them, this is what makes me the most mad
snapping the necks of so many teeny tiny baby birds would take way too much effort and time for most farms to even bother, so the most humane way is probably grinding them up into chicken nuggets
i haven't researched any of this, it's just all from random things i've read on NewsBreak, so not all that i have said is probably the most accurate, just gonna put that out there -
My apologies on the sadist comment. I get mad pretty easily when I talk about this stuff.
??? I’m sorry? Do you hear yourself? I don’t mean to sound rude, but….
the most humane way is probably grinding them up into chicken nuggets.
No. It isn’t humane at all.
While snapping the neck may take time and effort, buying the machines made to grind them up likely costs hundred, if not thousands of dollars. Grinding them up is insensitive. I can only imagine it’s a slow death.
Just imagine being born, then being tossed onto a conveyor belt, and then being grinding up slowly and painfully. Fresh from the egg.
No, it is certainly not the most humane way to kill them.

I agree with you on this. This is also very bad. -
I think they choose to do what they do because it's the most "efficient" way but that doesn't change the fact that it is incredibly cruel and inhumane to do so
