Thread Topic: Supreme Court extends gun rights

Quite recently I read that the Supreme Court has struck down hand gun bans in cities like Chicago.
Read all about it here:

tongue NewbieThis is a fair decision. A law-abiding citizen should be allowed to have guns. However, I fear that our conservative Supreme Court will not stop here on the gun issue, and that so long as Alito, Thomas, Scalia, Kennedy, and Roberts are on the bench, it's always a valid fear that gun control in America will be eradicated.

I don't think you should own a gun 'cause then there'd be less crimes. If you want to shoot someone, shoot them with a BB gun or a water pistol. Peace, love and joy.
-
if you outlaw weapons then only the criminals will carry them.
-
Bambi banning guns doesn't reduce crime. If you ban guns then the o nly people who aren't gonna be able to get them are law abiding citizens. Criminals can just go to the black market. Besides gun rights are protected under the 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights.
-
baning things has actually caused trouble in the past.
-
Exactly Hikaru. Just look what Prohibition did for the U.S. After alcohol was banned crime went up because people wanted a drink. It also gave rise to Organized Crime.
-
So we keep guns and let everyone blow each others heads off?
When there wasn't guns, people didn't blow each others heads off.
To erase blowing heads off, we take away guns. -
That wouldn't work. The government just can't snap their fingers and erase guns. The only thing a complete ban of guns would help is the black market.
-
Yes they can. Heavily fine all who resist.
-
Once again, if people can't get their guns legally, they can just go to the black market. Gun rights are protected under the 2nd Amendment anyway.

tongue NewbieGuns need to be legal for law-abiding citizens, with heavy regulation of course. Background checks, recertification, all that stuff. If a citizen does not want to own a gun it's their choice and they obviously feel more safe without a gun than with one. I think it's worth mentioning that it's been found that households without guns are safer than households with guns.
