Now, the human race has been reproducing and expanding exponentially, and soon all natural resources will be used up. When that happens, we are screwed. Their are many plans to combat it, but one really stands out to me, and I have one of my own.
1. Astronomical Colonization- the perfect solution, but takes time, money and lots of resources. But it gets people off a dying planet to more habitable ones
2. My Plan, Operation Light Rinse- eradication of 5% of each countries population, consisting off criminals, the poorest,those isolated from society and the mentally insane
Whatever the solution, the problem is real and needs to be dealt with -
Bit extreme. A 1-2 child policy should work fine.

The problem with Light Rinse is that all the people you listed tend to not actually take up that much space. Criminals, the mentally insane, the isolated, society tends to all push them together into jails and hospitals and so on and force them together. They're already taking up as little space as possible, and even removing 5% of them isn't going to make a dent in overpopulation or resource consumption. It's cheaper to keep 500 people in jail than it is to have 500 people outside of jail.
On top of that, the people you listed aren't the ones that are growing the population. All you've done is emptied a cup that'll be filled in three years anyway; because the root cause of the problem is still unaddressed.
And once you've run out of criminals and mentally insane, and you're still running out of space because the population is still growing, what next?
We're talking about a population doubling every generation; and like the rice on a chessboard analogy, no amount of culling is going to slow something like that; unless you go full dictator and execute one person for every person born. Space travel is really the only sustainable solution for mankind. -

Overpopulation isnt the hice scary problem its hyped up to be.
That being said, extraterrestrial colonization is an awesome idea -

Just waste what we have left and go total purge. Sounds fun to me -
Drop a few nukes on the overpopulated countries like India or China, I'm sure that'll wipe out a few million to clear some space, hmm?
