Thread Topic: Should disorders, disabilities or mental/physical illness

Okay, so I'm watching some videos on YouTube of these people committing crimes and one of these guys was said to be disabled. I'm not sure what the sickness was, but he seemed to be somewhat immoble of his left side. He was arrested anyway, though, and I saw someone in the comments saying that they felt bad for the guy because of his disability, and because of his particular illness, the charges should lessen.
You know, I'm not sure if I should agree with that. While I feel bad for the guy because of his disability, a crime is still a crime, right?
What do you guys think? -
If they are just physically disabled then it doesn't excuse it as they still know what they're doing. It would only excuse it if it was a mental disability that meant they didn't know what they were doing.

If a person poses a threat to others than they should be locked up/rehabilitated. Regardless of disability.
-
That too, but they wouldn't be held accountable for it with a mental disability.
-
Also depends how severe the disability was though I suppose?
-
They'd be held accountable somehoe no matter what, the punishment should be adapted to the reason though. If the person poses no threat to others but commited a crime, community service, a person commited a crime due to insanity, some form of mental rehabilitation, poses a threat and no mental problems, prison.

Well i think that deviants who pose a significant threat are better off neutralized in some fashion, and the vast majority of everybody i imagine would agree with that...the trouble is, its hard to say exactly what can be considered significant. And in service of that controversy, its necessary to make every effort to rehabilite rather than eliminate.
Mental illness is therefore treated not as a means to excuse oneself from crimes, but rather an opportunity a society can capitalize on to prevent danger ,while perserving the iindividual and the good they may bring as a functional citizen. -
I don't know about you guys, but if someone is trying to kill me, I don't give a s--- if they've got some mental illness or not, I'm going to do my best to protect myself, even if that means killing them.
