Your thoughts and opinions.

Honestly I just see it as another flag
-
They should keep it up if you don't like it then just ignore it
-my opinion -
It was their symbol of freedom from the protective tariff. Just like our flag is a symbol of freedom from Britain. So I say let the flag fly
-
That flag was a f---ing opposition to America's freedom.
-
Eh...maybe I'm biased but I remember back in High School there was this FFA(Agricultural/Farming)(literally the whole f---ing club had most of the schools white kids) club/group that always flew up that flag and they were pretty obnoxious about it >.> the principal had even asked them to put it down nicely, but they didn't listen until a bunch of complaints were made then they finally did. They were pretty racist towards everyone else too, but they were also subtle about it so nobody could really say anything-I'm surprised nobody kicked their asses, considering the majority of the school was Hispanic/Mexican.I mean not all the members were like that but a good amount of the club was.
So yeah I'm glad they took that s--- down. -
LET THE FLAG FLYYYY
I guess you agree with racism and slavery.
Jade: Me too. It's f---ing over, those kids were probably just white southerners that were proud of that stupid, hellish flag that opposed blacks or any other race. The flag is taken down, it's over, there's still racism, but it's down. -
The flag going down doesn't change any thing.
-
That's what I said. ._. I just want it down, so it can piss of the Southerners that supported the flag.
-
Now people can shut up about liberals and s--- being the only whiny f---s.
Everyone is a whiny f---.
No political group is free from being a whiny f---.
Always a problem, always something to complain about.
god, everyone shut the f--- up. -
I find the flag as something of disrespect to PoC. That flag was made during civil war times when the south wanted to break away from America because they wanted to keep slavery. That flag symbolizes racism and ignorance, especially when people claim it as heritage, as if its not about oppression of PoC.
This is just an analogy, but think about this, do people in Germany still fly the Nazi flag. A flag that represents oppression and was the symbol that led to millions of deaths? No, because they realize that it's harmful to people even if they weren't alive during that time. Yeah it's still a part of Germany history, something that can never be erased, but there aren't people who fly the flag outside of their homes just because its their 'heritage'. -
So why should the confederate flag still fly? In conclusion, it shouldn't.
-
Well than why should the American flag. The confederate flag was a symbol of freedom from the protective tariff just like the American flag is a sympol of freedom from Englands unfair taxes.
-
Honestly who cares.
-
I say if you want to fly it on your own private property, that's fine, because (A)it's America and freedom of speech is constitutionally protected, and (B)symbols can mean whatever you want them to mean, and some people do see it as nothing more than a show of heritage.
BUT...
Flying the flag outside of a gov't building is another issue entirely. The gov't is supposed to treat everyone equally, so while white Southerners may see the flag as a monument to the bravery of those who died for the South (the majority of whom were not slave owners, they were just defending their homeland), virtually every black Southerner sees it as a monument to the brutal institution that was American slavery. And they have a legitimate beef, because the Civil War was undeniably fought over slavery, and the stated ideology of the Confederate government was that whites were superior to blacks.
Like I said, it means different things to different people. But if something is that controversial it shouldn't be on the grounds of a government building.
