I found the quintessential problem with feminism.
Of course feminism itself has many theoretical and practical flaws, but in regards to the basis of and ANY civil equality movement of the same brand, it will fail because of this: you CANNOT control other people. You can't make someone treat you how you want to be treated no matter what folkways or morays you impose, as is shown by history, world news, our personal lives, and logical reasoning. You cant control the world, only your reaction to it.
So when an activist comes up and says what is or is not acceptable based on potential damage to another person, the natrual question is: why? People have always and will always give their respect based on deservance, and compassion based on personal interest.
The basic problem is that the movement is dedicated to achievement through control, and its just not possibly, nor desirable. -
Interesting thoughts. I do agree that you cannot tell people what to do. The flaw in your argument, however, is the view that equality is imposed from the higher ups. Any movement for equality is actually bottom-up, feminism included. Civil rights, feminism, workers rights, you name it. Every movement that has happened in this country to better the quality of life for a group of people has come not from government intervention but from continued activism from those sharing a common interest. At some point the gov't does in fact respond, but only when the public outcry has become so loud as to necessitate a shift in policy. With regards to feminism, the movement started in 1840 at the Seneca Falls Convention in New York. It took 77 years for women to have the right to vote nationwide. It is flawed logic to believe that equality is granted, the only way anything for anyone has gotten better in this country is by fighting and screaming and clawing to get what you deserve. And that is what feminism is at it's very core in spite of all the s---head man-haters who have fouled its good name.

"You cannot control other people"
Wouldn't that, then, be the flaw with anything remotely political? -
^It depends on whether change comes from the bottom of society or the top (i.e. the leaders). I don't reject the notion that it is bad when the government or the elites try to dictate to the rest of us. What I reject is the notion that feminism, or any rights movement for that matter, is a mandate of the Establishment. It is pretty much the opposite as I have already stated.

Feminism is illogical and unmoral, women think more with there heart then there head and a functioning society needs someone to think with there head. Now I am not saying that all women think with there heart but the idea that woman are better than men and can run a economy smoothly a day more efficiently than men seems more like a bunch of frustrated petty girls who just want a bigger slice of the cake and then wanted a bigger and bigger slice until they consume the entire cake. The kind of girls who wanted to play with they boys when they were little.
And feminist men are just idiots who probably had controling mothers.
Please keep in mind that this is run together and scatterbrained, so if you with to address something withing this shallow shadow of my opinions on feminism please choose something direct, not that word inbetween the word.

What are your opinions on feminisim.
-
i consider myself a feminist. I don't think women are "better" than men, I just think women should have equal wages and rights to own their own bodies ie birth control and abortions
-
Abortion is completely seperate from equality of sexes.
/me goes by egalitarian because no s---head rep for this movement yet
However all birth control does is prevent the egg from being produced (to my knowledge) -
are women's rights separate from feminism?
-
Abortion is a situation with no male equivalent (birth control has equivalent of condoms, etc). So abortion is a different topic than equality of the sexes. And as such should be kept out of any movements for equality.
-
im pretty sure that abortion is under the feminism umbrella
