Basically it's a bunch of white guys arguing about whose dick is bigger.

It's something that's important, but as of now incredibly corrupt and broken.
I mean I'm sure there are politicians out there with good intentions and do wish to serve the public well, but they're rarely the ones with power.
Your best bet is to try and make change in your local and state governments. -
I found that you have to know what you ideologies are and find which group ( conservative, liberal, moderate) and then listen to the news. I don't just mean one channel giving you the info, I mean multiple stations so you can get rid of most bias from the news

I stay up to date with politics and news by checking /b/ every day to see what the hype is.

If it helps, I haven't found an actual group that I agree with yet. As in a party. I'm starting to think maybe I don't want to.

I relate to Libertarian ideology the most, but I don't blindly follow any party.

Liberals want more individual freedom, so they tend to support civil rights, but they also tend to support markets and capitalism as well. They also support bourgeois democracy and some will even enact measures against the proletariat. They believe rights must be gained by voting and begging the ruling class, not by revolution and true liberation from the bourgeoisie.
