"Grandma just called me to tell me the news of the murder," he said. "She really wants me to come out, but at the same time she knows I'm better off with you."

He sighed. "I guess.. Just.." he found it a bit hard to say. "My grandfather, the one who was screaming at me yesterday.. I heard him in the background. It shouldn't be long before he threatens me again.."

"Then don't answer the phone next time he calls."

"Most likely it'll show as my grandmother because he'll try to use her phone, and I won't know who's really calling. But I'll try not to."

"Well, if you hear his voice, just hang up."

"I guess.." he muttered. He just sighed a bit. "My father had told me when I was little to respect him. But I'm grown up now, and he won't give me respect."

"I know.." Gio said softly. "But I owe it to him. My mother died when I was born, my father committed suicide.. And instead of actually leaving me on the street, grandpa took me in. He's just an a--hole."

Ivan sighed softly. "I'm so sorry that happened to you, love."

"No, it's okay," he reassured. "I was little when it happened. The only impact is that I don't really know what 'family' is like, but it's nothing too bad."

Ivan didn't say anything and just hugged Giovanni close.
