I laugh a fake laugh. "Why do you care though. You don't know me and you didn't know my brother. So why the Hell do you even want to talk about? And I've been through more pain that either of you combined."

I follow the fragrance that the tree and flowers lead to and it leads me to a nice open place full of flowers with one tree in the center.

"Oh. Your-your brother. I'm sorry. Really, I mean... Well, I. I care because... Well, why can't I care about you guys? Is it illegal?" I continue.

"You need a reason, if I knew you you wouldn't but I don't! I've never even talked to you before this." I say walking into the woods opposite of the way Mirah went.

"Or so you think," I mumble, "There's more to me than you know."
Feeling deflated, I head back to the bench with my friends.
"What is wrong with you, Jamie?" Maria asks.
"What?!" I snap.
"You've just been..like, talking to yourself and also.. Talking to them." Maria explains.
"Yeah," says Raleigh.
"What?! I can't care? They're my tentmates, I can hardly avoid them!" I say, flaring up.
"Cool it," says Raleigh with an eyeroll. -
"Or so you think," I mumble, "There's more to me than you know."
Feeling deflated, I head back to the bench with my friends.

"What?!" I snap.

I groan and hear her footsteps get farther and farther away. Sighing I take out my knife and put the tip to my neck again still walking. -
(S'okay)
"You guys-you guys are just plain dumb. I don't want to be known as some dumb, shallow cheerleader. If you do, fine. Bye."
I go on the path where the girls from my tent went.
"Messed UP," says Maria.
"You bet," agrees Raleigh. -
I withdraw the knife, put it in my pocket, and put my hand to my neck. I start singing the song 'hurt' by Johnny Cash and sit on a boulder.

As I walk, a million thoughts run through my head, voices mocking me.
" You're an idiot, Jamie. You'll never be cheer captain. Repeat!
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Taylor, Jamie. Sarah is gone."
"Jamie, your father and I are getting a divorce."
"Please, don't do this. We've already lost Sarah."
"We've lost the house."
"Where is the proof?"
"How could you do this to us?"
"It's done. Impossible to fix. Leave."
"You understand you've broken the law?"
i try to shake the voices, a timeline of bad memories, out of my head, but can't. I pass Samara, but keep walking, head down. -
I cooly look at Jamie as she passes me and as she leaves. I still continue singing but I'm on auto. Even thinking back 10 years every memory was with Mirah and my brother. I missed having a best friend. I mean I have Trevana but she's just not the same....

I sighed. Nothing could wipe away the past. So why did I try to cover it up?
I turned a corner and found myself in a grove of fruit trees-lovely. I went and sat under a Cherry tree, my thoughts still on my miserable life- even though no one here knew I had one.
