For seven consecutive years, my school had been the undefeated CT Science Olympiad Champions... We lost because Old Lyme had one too many f---ing gold medals. The scores were exactly the same. -_-' Just one freaking tiebreaker and it all falls down. Ah, jeez. The smell of defeat hangs like mildew in the air... Putrid, disgusting, suffocating. But Michael won four gold medals for his team for all four events he was in. :3 I'm so proud of my brother~.
Poor Poe, the loss tore her to bits... She really wanted to go to nationals...
And Ronny, oh dearest Ronny... She too was devastated at the news of coming in second place to the Old Lymers.
Ah, but there's nothing left to do but return to school on Monday and help pack up the materials we had so eagerly set aside for nationals.
At least we left with pride, character, and good spirit. It's a shame, but everyone has to know what it's like to lose once in a while. They gave their absolute all... That's all that matters. -

As long as everyone had fun, that's the only thing that ever matters in a competition.

Exactly. Everyone was immensely grateful for the opportunity to take part in such a competition. We all stood up and gave the winning team a standing ovulation, which made them go absolutely bonkers. xD
