Eric was starting to come to. He slowly became aware of faint beeping and footsteps around him. His eyes opened slowly, revealing a woman standing in the doorway.

"Eric?" She smiled.

He looked up at the woman, confused. "Where am I?"

"Well, the car crashed and we had to go to the hospital..." She walked over and sat in the chair next to the hospital bed.

He was startled by her comfort of walking up to a complete stranger. "I... I don't know you..."

"What?" She kissed him. "You should. You proposed to me last night, remember?" She peppered him with a few more kisses and smiled at him. "It's me, Tessa. Remember me?"

"I've never seen you before... I'm sorry..." he shook his head. "You must have me confused with someone else." The doctor walked in with a clipboard.
"Ah, our parient's awake." His attention turned to Tessa. "And you're his girlfriend, right?"
Eric's mind was muddled. He couldn't recall knowing this person at all. -
"Fiancee, yes." Tessa nodded.

Eric shook his head. "You don't get it.. I don't know you."
The doctor frowned. "Ah... A word, please?" He gestured for Tessa to join him in the hallway. -
Tessa went out into the hallway with the doctor.

The doctor furrowed his brow, reviewing the analysis on his clipboard. "It seems as though your fiance has suffered a major head trauma... His memory has been... Wiped out."

She stared at him for a second, not wanting to believe him. Finally she spoke. "Will... will he ever get it back?"

"We can't be sure... There is a slight chance that his memories could return gradually. I'm very sorry."

"Okay. Um, thank you for telling me." She went back into the room and sat back down. "So, um... Eric..."

He glanced up at her. She looked so distraught and devastated. He wondered why.
