Eric smiled at Tessa, his right hand holding the box in his jacket pocket. His fate, their future, sat in that dark velvety box, just waiting to be unveiled. He looked up at her. "Tessa, we've been together for about four years, and I wouldn't miss a second of it, not for the world..."

Tessa smiled. "Yes?"

Eric smiled and knelt down on one knee. He reached into his pocket and drew out the box, opening it. The small, clear gem gleamed in the evening moonlight. He looked up at her and stared into her eyes. "Tessa... Will you marry me?"

"Oh my god..." she whispered. "Yes! Yes!" She hugged him tightly.

He stood up, hugging her. He gently took her left hand in his and slipped the ring onto her fourth finger. Eric kissed her gently. "I love you," he whispered.

"I love you too," she whispered, small tears appearing in her eyes.

He ran his thumb across her cheek, wiping away a few tears that had escaped her eyes. "Should we tell everyone in person?"

She nodded.

Eric took her hand in his, leading her to his car. "Who'd you like to tell first?" He unlocked the car door and opened the passenger side for her to get in. -
She thought for a moment. "Either your parents or my parents."

He nodded. "Let's stop at your parents' place first. They live closer to here than mine do." He shut the door after she got in and walked around to the drivers' side. Eric climbed into the car and put the key in the ignition.
