Kris nodded. "She is. Trust me."
"I'm Chess. I remember Near," I said, closing my eyes, "and how he always bossed me around. 'Chess, go find Mello...' 'Chess, watch Matt...' 'Chess, go away. You're annoying me.'" I kept holding Mello's hand. -
Matt furrowed his eyebrows. "Hmm. Now I do realize why you seemed to be so captivated with me when we'd barely even met..." he smirked.
Mello sighed. That little b------, Near... I wish he'd just die. -
I smiled faintly. "Yeah, well... He wanted me to keep a close eye on the two of you. Don't know why. But I was the only one he ever really talked to. When he did, he was just telling me to do something..." I smiled more. "And I know I looked a lot different then. I didn't have bright red hair. My hair was blond... Just like-"
Kris interrupted me, "Don't say her name. It'll just make it worse, Mia. I know I've told you this before. But you have to try to forget about... them. They're gone now."
"...I know that. I know they're gone. That's why..." Tears welled up in my eyes. "Nevermind. Forget it." -
"Mia, Mia... It's alright..." I squeezed her hand gently.

I wanted to sit up to hug Mello, but I couldn't because of my stupid ribs. So I pulled him closer to me by pulling his hand.
Kris stroked my hair, then got up just to sit on Matt's lap. -
Mia pulled me closer. I scooted next to her, holding her as gently as I could.
Matt wrapped his arms around Kris' waste as she sat on his lap. He kissed the top of her head lovingly. -
(ugh im stuck in my matt persona)
Kris leaned on Matt. "Hun, we should give them a minute," she whispered in Matt's ear.
I enjoyed being so close to Mello, but it felt awkward with Kris and Matt watching us. But then again, at least I got them to get Mello for me. -
Matt nodded and stood up, walking out of the room.
I kissed her forehead. -
Kris followed Matt out of the room.
I ran my hands through Mello's hair, pulling his head so his mouth was at mine. I smiled faintly, and kissed him. -
I kissed her back, as gently as I could.

I held Mello's head to mine, kissing him lovingly. My ribs ached, but I didn't care right now.

I closed my eyes, enjoying our closeness. We were interrupted by a quiet knock on the door.

I rolled my eyes. I pushed Mello away slightly since I couldn't exactly pull away. "Yeah?"

I moved back to the chair beside the hospital bed as a nurse walked in.
"We have to run some tests." I got up and exited the room, glancing back at Mia before shutting the door behind me.
