Killing the zombie may be important, but the goal is survival. So if I had to choose one or the other, I'd take a towel any day.

You can survive using a bat too. If a zombie spots you and makes any kind of noise it will attract other zombies. It'd be important to be able to kill it quickly rather than just keep running everytime you encountered one. Which btw could easily lead you into yet another zombie anyways.

a bat is a nice show piece, but wooden ones arent designed for long terms as a weapon, and even metal ones will bend eventually. But a towel is all you need. If you're smart, you wouldnt ever have to fight a zombie.

Unless you live in less populated area you're bound to run into a couple of them. Bats may not be perfect but they'll last longer than people make them out to and you can always just swap it out for a shovel or whatever you have available once the bat starts to crack.

But a towel will never crack. It can muffle zombies and be used to safely sling them to the ground. It can also be used around your feet to muffle your foot steps so you can sneek past zombies. Not to mention help you hide if there's one heading your way. It's good armor if one is attacking you. And it can be used to flag down other survivors who are carrying shovels. :P

A towel can rip or soak up infected blood. You can muffle a zombie by smashing its skull in. =P How would you muffle your foot steps with it? You'd need more than one and some rope or something to hold it in place properly and it could snag on somehing and trip you. You don't need armor when you can use a longer weapon to keep them back while actually stopping them. Also flagging down others may not be a good idea considering they may try to kill you to take whatever you have and sense you'd have no weapons it wouldn't be all that hard for them.
