Thread Topic: Help me name a fictional town
-
For a webcomic my friend and I are collaborating on.
The town is costal so we're thing "[something] bay"
We were going to go with Avery Bay but the comic has strong bird and music themes. The title is Birdsong and the chapters/acts are going to be titled in-theme, so I'd like the name of the town to fit as well.
So, something with the vibes of "Avery" but bird or music themed, should flow with "bay" as well. I'm open to all suggestions.
It's a supernatural mystery/thriller if that helps. -
avery could be birdy
it's similar to the word avian
ariel bay or avian bay could work too -
(ariel being a play on the word aerial, which birds are, bc they fly, or at least like 99% of species do)
-
hope this helps a bit ^
albatross bay
"albatross" can also be a name for a type of sea bird
crescendo bay
the most direct musical theme I think lmao
a more abstract and more generic take; allegro bay
"allegro" is the musical term for playing a song fast, so it fits for it being a thriller, and it also fits with music themes since "fast" can also refer to being in a "rush"
carillon bay
the bell like towers of a carillon fit well with the supernatural mystery/thriller genre (think bells tolling in the distance, and what not lmfao) -
oooh thank you for the suggestion! I did get to the name Avery Bay from playing around with the word aviary. We might still go with Avery Bay if I don't find something that fits better.
I also like the idea of using "ariel," I actually have a character in an unrelated series named something very similar.
Again, thank you both for the suggestions!! -

Akikki Bay
Avocet Bay
Wren Bay
Lark Bay
Starling Bay
I just checked if they worked with Avery as a last name.
Unless you do want it to start with A? -
Astoria means "female hawk."" It's the name of a real coastal town. Idk if you'd want to use it for that reason, but I thought it fit ☺
-
^That one sounds really good
-
Astoria Bay is lovely, thank you for that suggestion!! Avocet and Starling also stand out to me. It doesn't have to start with an a
Sending all of these to my co-author -
Heron
Apalis
Humming (for hummingbird)
Dotterel
Trogon
Aracari
Redwing
Canary
Alethe
Elaenia -
got a few more suggestions ^
pagan bay
you can associate the word pagan to something musical, since pagan music is a thing
kestrel bay
kestrels are birds of prey, fitting ur theme
avelon bay
avelon is a mythological island or utopia in arthurian legend, which might suit ur setting, and “avel” means bird in welsh language
avylon bay
avelon bay sounds simple and sounds like a v nice place, while the avylon sounds a bit more mysterious or ominous as if there is an aura of danger surrounding the setting, which could work with the supernatural mystery/thriller genre
avium bay
avium is latin for "birds"
mallard bay
a mallard is a type of bird -
We are going with Astoria Bay! Thank you all for your suggestions, they were super helpful. I might steal some of them for chapter/act titles!
The comic is called Birdsong, so keep an eye out for it! I'll definitely be linking it here when we start putting it out!! -
ill def keep an eye out for it, it sounds awesome!
