Lmk below. Basically, there would be two sides- affirmative and negative. Each side would get 24 hours to come up with what they’re going to say. There could be 3 judges too, who can ask questions and decide on the winners (not based on the debate question, but rather which side presented their information the best).

Also how formal exactly is this debate? Is it a Team Policy, Lincoln-Douglas, NDT, CEDA, or Parliamentary Debate? Or does it matter?

I’m not sure what some of those are, but my history teacher does this format:
Opening Statements
AFF: 1 minute
NEG: 1 minute
Argument
AFF: 3 minutes
Questions
Judges →AFF: 2 minutes
Argument
NEG: 3 minutes
Questions
Judges →NEG: 2 minutes
Rebuttal
AFF: 2 minutes
NEG: 2 minutes
Closing Statements
AFF: 1 minute
NEG: 1 minute -
