Slugs often possess parasites that can slowly destroy your nervous system leaving you paralyzed. It is a bad idea to eat them for this reason.
However, it is not in fact the slugs fault that it possess parasites, though it is my father's fault for informing me at the age of six that my pet slugs ate salt and watching me as I gleefully retrieved it and offered it to my slugs. This was the most traumatic day of my life. I can still remember the painful way they thrashed around and then disintegrated.
So, on the instance of emotional trauma; cats for the win. -
