Thread Topic: Can I have some help?

My side jaw in front of my right ear hurts like crazy, when I chew it makes this small clicking sound and I felt the spot where the pains were coming from, it feels really tight and swollen. The right side feels a bit higher than the other side, and I’ve no clue what’s going on.
-
do you have any idea at all what might have caused it?
-
No clue, I went to bed having a perfect jaw and this morning while eating breakfast it started to cause pain
-
ah, it's probably tmjd.
I have it. it's basically the dysfunction of the joint in your jaw (clicking sounds, pain) sadly, there's not much you can really do for it. cutting out super chewy foods (like don't chew gum because that will really make it worse) can help. taking otc meds like ibuprofen will help reduce swelling, and you can use a hot/cold pack if you really want to.
you can talk to your dentist if it's really bad, but they're just going to tell you the same thing i did most likely since it's not something you can really treat. there are surgeries but their fail rate is extremely high.
cutting off sources of stress can help too. getting a mouth guard while you sleep to prevent clenching or teeth grinding can also help. -
Sounds like you slept on it and pushed it out of hinge. If it's swollen, that might be the bone rubbing up against something. You should have someone look at it.
-
according to google it can commonly happen when you have a sore throat or cold so maybe you're stating to catch something? there's also the chance that you just slept weird and screwed up your jaw that way
-
Screw it. I’ll have to live with this awful jaw pain. My parents are scheduling an orthodontist appointment, so hopefully that might help a bit.
I looked into causes of TMJD and apparently it might be caused by misaligned teeth, which I’ve got since I’m getting ready for braces. -
Oof, late post. But I just yawned and it made this super loud clicking noise, maybe it was just bc of how I slept.
-
yeah, misaligned/crowded teeth can also make it worse/cause it. also, ask them to look at your wisdom teeth too. they can also really cause a lot of pain, and you might wanna get them out before you get braces if that's the case. i'm sure the ortho will look at it but just make sure to ask for it just in case. in my experience, ortho's ignore tmjd a lot, and if you're a younger kid you really need to push for it because they have a tendency to overlook you.
-
They’ll probably be taking one or two of my teeth out, my front teeth are super misaligned.
-
ah, yeah that makes sense ): it'll be better for you in the end though i'm sure!

My jaw will pop if I open it really wide. My mom got me a mouth guard for when I sleep, but I just haven't taken the time to do the part where you mold it to your teeth and stuff.
