I think it's also like
I don't want to work on this farm but I want all the money
so I'll buy someone to do the work for me
or like, I can't find someone to have sex with legally so I'm going to buy someone and rape them
it's terrible and wrong but that's probably some of the thought process behind it
laziness, maybe desperation -
You also have a point

As a black person who's great great grandparents more likely than not went through slavery and rape, I don't know how I feel about this whole thread ๐ ๐
I think that it's more socially unacceptable rather than wrong, it's the person that buys the other person that counts as whether the situation is wrong or not. If the buyer only intentioned for them to help out or just keep them company, even though it's illegal, it wouldn't necessarily be wrong (if the person they bought isn't mistreated, of course). Obviously, it's almost always going to be "wrong" but no human (or any other species on earth) could ever possibly tell whether something is completely right or wrong. "Right and wrong" is solely based on society and how throughout the centuries we've gauged things as "too evil", though in another dimension being "too evil" could simply be farting without excusing yourself.

ah see, now we're getting into moral philosophy and that's a rabbit hole that only gets deeper

I think yall took this a lil too seriously

perhaps, but it's all in good fun

As a Canadian, I think I have something very important to add.

SAINTMOTEL NewbieThe bible also tells us to obey the laws of our nation. And in America at least, slavery is illegal, so that's why.
It must also be understood that the bible was written by man, not all of it (the vast majority of it isn't) is God's word. -
No just being technical, all if it is God's word. If the entire Bible is written by man, your reasoning is flawed @SAINTMOTEL, since you claim at least some of it is God's word. It's either all true or not at all.
Technically, laws in Leviticus were under the old covenant, which would be people back then sacrificing animals and following all those weird rules to atone for their sins.
Nowadays, Christians live under the new covenant, which would be centered around Jesus, who broke the old covenant.
Yay Bible lesson ๐ -
even if you believe in christianity you should know that the bible was supposedly written by a bunch of different dudes. where do you think the book names came from? you don't think it was all written by god right? my church taught it was written by the disciples. maybe I misinterpreted your claim but it was definitely not written by god or jesus, even if you do believe in them
-
SAINTMOTEL Newbiethe words of jesus are highlighted in red for you, but it's hard to believe any of it was actually commanded by god. Personally I DO believe that almost all of it was thought up by mankind, save perhaps the ten commandments and a few other pieces here and there.
I will admit that I don't regularly attend church anymore and therefore can't provide a conclusive argument, but from what I do know and what I've learned, that's what I personally believe. My advice to anyone wanting to learn about religion is to take a course in college that covers more than one in an unbiased light. -
I believe the Bible had about 40 something different authors. A lot were disciples. Then you also have Moses and Paul and anyone else who testified. As far as I know, Jesus didn't write any of the Bible. God did not directly write the Bible. I mean none of it was just "thought up". People wrote down what they saw, what they witnessed, what they've learned, its just up to you whether you decide it's true or not.
Christians (generally speaking) believe the Bible was God-ordained. That God influenced man when man wrote it.
I'm not trying to convert anyone lol that's just the facts as I know it. As unbiased as I can -

It either is all of God's word, or it isn't.
