Square Enix has the largest floor at E3. They revealed a new ffvii remake screen shot. Their E3 promo pic looks to be a massive zoomed in shot of the Buster Sword's blade. (As evidenced by the cracks and damages) Something big is happening.

I feel hesitant to be excited for a 7 remake. I believe that the terrible graphics of the original actually made the game more free. The game didn't need to worry about being pretty or cool like later Final Fantasy games try to be. 7 was able to have a lighthearted sense of humor to go with its goofy graphics, a sense of humor that would not mesh so well with a more polished, cooler, and realistic art style. I have always considered the humor and goofiness of Final Fantasy VII to be an integral part of the experience, and it's a big part of what makes VII my favourite of the games.
But you know, maybe it won't be so bad. And maybe after the remake they'll stop trying to make every other protagonist another Cloud. -
I like the original game a ton. It's my most played game on ps1. (Granted I only own three ps1 games, but I've still played through 7 to completion about 10 times since getting it and 10 on Christmas almost 4 years ago.) I don't think the remake will be serious all the way through, the team has said that it will still have many of the game's quirky moments, and Cloud will be as dorky as he was at the end of the original. "Let's mosey!" comes to mind.
I see what you mean though. Scenes like Red XIII wearing that excellent human disguise on the boat ride won't really fit with the style shown in the remake.
The way I see it, it'll be cool to have two versions of the game. The original and the remake to suit my mood. If the remake comes out that is. >.>
Unfortunately, the Cloud type character is really popular. However, not quite as popular in Japan. Japanese fans seem to like male characters like Tidus or Cecil. If I remember correctly, Penello beat Fran and several others in a popularity contest done in Dengeki PlayStation.
Who are your favorite FF characters?
Mine are Terra, Locke, Shadow, Cloud, Basch, Celes, Noctis, Squall, the original FF3 cast/ their ds remake counterparts, and Lulu. I also really like the FF Type 0 cast. Sice is my favorite. -
*However the Cloud type character is still popular in Japan. Lightning is more popular in Japan than she is in America. I don't think 13's a disliked over there. Also Final Fantasy fans seem to get over their dislike of a previous game when the next one comes out and then the new one gets the hate.
