Looks like I've got all my s--- in order now. Fantastic.
-
oh s--- I've been doing this for like an hour
I lost track of time -
I came across a woman outside on her porch tonight after the cops chased everyone out of the park. I sat with her and talked for about half an hour. She gave me pizza and offered me a cigarette, and she was funny and really easy to talk to. I'm not used to dealing with people who are just genuinely pleasant. There's so much animosity in my house, in my workplace, really everywhere I go, that I'm not used to it anymore. She was great, though. I really hope we can do it again.

Lapsang Souchong NewbieLast night, on my way home from work, I noticed a young man wandering down the side of the road. It was 11:30 at night. I stopped to ask him if he was alright, then noticed wounds on his face and arm.
"Is that blood?"
"Yeah.."
"Jesus christ, are you okay?"
He said he was just trying to get to the gas station, that he was almost there. He hesitated for a moment and then asked if I might give him a ride the rest of the way. I told him I would. He got in and I continued along the route he'd been travelling.
As I drove, I began to question him. I asked him what had happened. He explained that he'd gotten jumped, and his phone as well as all of the money in his wallet had been taken. As we talked, I realized that the gas station we'd been heading toward was closed and changed my route to the next closest one. He'd seemed a little out of breath, but for the most part, calm, up until that point. Now, panic was edging into his voice.
"I'm sorry, can you call my mom? She's gonna be so worried."
I pulled into a parking lot and he dictated his mothers number to me so as to avoid getting blood on my phone. I put the phone on speaker and kept driving as I listened to their conversation.
"Hello?"
"Mom?"
"Where the hell are you?"
"We're going to the gas station. Can you meet us there?"
"What gas station?"
He looked to me. I gave her the directions and she agreed to meet us there.
"Who's with you?"
"(They) picked me up on the side of the road."
"What's going on?"
"I'll explain when we get there. Please just meet us there."
She agreed, and the call ended. We made light conversation on the way there. He told me his name was AJ. I told him he could call me Road. He laughed a little, and told me he appreciated my caution. I asked him what he meant. He mentioned choosing an object around me instead of giving him my real name. I told him that I never use my real name and that Road was a name I've used for a while. He told me that his mother was an EMT. I mentioned that mine used to be one, as well.
As we pulled into the gas station parking lot, he searched it for his mother's car. She was already parked up front, leaning up against the trunk and looking around with a solemn look. As I pulled up next to her, the windows already down, she approached.
"Turn your head. Now."
He complied. She demanded to know what had happened. A lot of the following interrogation rushed by me as I tried to make myself useful. I offered her my first aid kit, which she used as she examined his wounds and then declared that they needed to call the police, and then go to the hospital. She was sure that the open wound on his face would be a nasty scar without immediate medical attention. He seemed very reluctant to get the police involved, but she and I convinced him that it had to be done.
He explained as best he could the events that led up to the attack at her prompting, but they were jumbled and I don't recall them in their entirety. He mentioned a friend of his that was now in jail, who had apparently antagonized his attackers. He struggled to remember the words he'd heard them say, something about messing with someone's brother for being gay.
"You're gay, that doesn't make sense." his mother replied. She went inside to talk to a police officer who was already there. He and I talked a little more.
"You're gay, huh?"
"Yeah."
"Aaaaaaaaay. Same."
His mother returned. Thanked me for picking him up, then warned me not to pick up strangers. The two left for the hospital. I went home. -
Lapsang Souchong NewbieActually, his mother's number should still be in my phone. I wonder if it would be alright for me to call her some time and follow up.
