and then started playing videos on his phone over it
and the conflicting sounds grated on my nerves and I'm ready to kill someone -

There was a girl I knew in high school. She and I hardly talked before then even though I'd known her since elementary school. People had made fun of her for getting close to me once in middle school, and she'd told me as much then and refused to associate with me.
