Yes, it's very good, but I don't know if it's for your age, it's like 9-12 year olds really, it's 388 pages.

what's it about?

Well, at the beginning, these two maids whom work at a house where 3 professors live, go up the mountains for a picnic at the end of each month. (They live in Vienna)
Then one day they get tired from walking, go in to this chapel and see a baby left there, they take her in and call her Annika. -

The professors agreed that they take her in, only if she worked, so the two maids brought her up to cook and clean and she became useful throught the house, she had too friends whom were Pauline and Stefan, Pauline worked at her grandpa's book shop and Stefan was a poor boy, but his dad worked at sort of - fun fair.
But Annika was always dreaming that her mother - her real one would come and take her back to her home. -
ooh the plot thickens...

Then one day, this woman comes along, she claims she's Annika's mother, and she's an aristrocrat, her name is Frau Von Tennenberg.
So she takes Annika to a place called Spittal, it's boring there and her mother doesn't let her do the cooking and cleaning and says she must be of upper class and a proper woman. So Annika gets bored.
Then at the stables she meets a boy whom has a horse, he called it Rocco, and it was one of the Lippizanners which are pure bred horses that are trained for years to do special tricks, Annika had seen them because the Professor's took her for a treat to see them at a show, for her "Found day" which was the day she was found by the two maids. -

The boy's name is Zed, short for Zedekiah, his mother was a gypsey.
Rocco was a horse, a proper pure one, but it belonged to Annika's mother whom remarried and had a song whose name was Hermann, but her husband was a gambler and Spittal was falling apart.
So Annika by secret helped Zed around and befriended him.
Before she left to go to Spittal though, she had neighbor's whom hated her called the Eggharts, they were snobbish people and they had a great aunt whom was getting old, and was dying, the Eggharts daughter. Called Loremarie was supposed to be reading for the old lady, but she says it was boring and didn't like her, so she decided to pay Anikka to do it for her.
So Anikka listened to the old lady tell her stories, and she said that she wanted to be an actress and got a job at a theatre, they'd put her on a swing and she'd swin high over the stage strewing flowers, she then later fell in love with a painter and lived with him, but then he died and she coudn't get a job because she wasn't that pretty anymore.
But she had jewels and priceless necklaces that dukes and rich people had given to her, so she went to a jeweler to sell them so she could stay alive and keep going, but he was kind to her and made her idenitcal jewelry but made of glass so that she could have a memory of them.
