A harem is basically a group of females intended to provide sexual pleasure/offspring for a male. They were originally created for kings and wealthy men in like... middle/near eastern countries so that they could have as many descendants as possible. Sorta sexist, but it was practical at the time and most harems ended up being pretty nice places for the women living in them? -
