It was as if I could smell death, it was so familiar now. The smell of despair and deafeat, but now it was coming from my own home. I sent Lenora out so she wouldn't see as our own mother slowly drew her last breath in through pale lips, but never let it out. I gripped her still warm hand in mine until the blood stopped flowing, and it went cold. I looked over at Helik, my big brother, who had a bit of color in his cheeks. I hoped he would survive, but the doctor said not to bring in any germs from the outside, so I went to explore some more of the wreckage with Lenora. -
