I blinked at the sky, aware of how muddy I was. Cursing under my breath, I stood and hugged myself, heading back to the cabin.
"Dusk." A voice said behind me.
I whirled around, my bow sliding opened in my hand. I saw a middle-aged man, with salt and pepper hair. Hermes.
"I'm not in the mood for gods." I growled, lowering my bow.
"Dusk, I have to tell you something," He said quietly, "something important." -
"Damn. Well you're lucky that my worst fighting is with a sword. Worst is sword, then archery and daggers, then darts, then hand to hand combat"
-
(IS HERMES YOUR FATHER?!)
Malcolm: "Oh. Okay. I think...how about tomorrow, two o'clock in the afternoon?" -
"Sure. I also wanna try archery again and practice with swords. Maybe I'll win, maybe you'll win." I stated. I looked at the plans again. "How much aluminium do we have?"
-
Annabeth: Landon stepped forward. "We have about a hundred pounds of aluminum. Apparently, it's a really valuable metal and extremely useful."
-
"I hope it'll be enough. And that's the whole point. Use it right and you can make things nearly indestructible. Use it wrong and it'll be worthless"
-
(YOU'LL SEE MWAHAHAHA)
I rolled my eyes and paused, "What?"
He shifted awkwardly, and actually looked nervous. "I'm your father."
I stared at him. "Wait... what?"
Hermes hurriedly plowed on, "I knew you'd be mad...and after Luke and everything... I haven't had any new kids at camp recently and I was nervous about claiming you..."
I felt the anger well up. "Where do you think you've been!? I-I was alone for YEARS! Did you even care about that?!" -
(I KNEW IT!!!)
Annabeth: "I'm sure we'll get it right. We're children of Athena!"
Someone pounded on the door, and I jumped. "I wonder who that could be." Silena smiled mischievously, and stood up. A soaked Drew stood in front of the door, shivering, and glaring terribly. "Why Drew!" Silena said in fake surprise. "You know you don't have to stand out in the rain to take a shower, right?"
"I'm ruined!" Drew screeched, and sneezed. "And cold," she muttered.
"Well," I started, joining them. "Maybe you could've asked Mom for a towel of something, huh?"
Drew shot me a withering look. "Don't talk to me, kid." She grumbled. -
"You'd better get it right, since Ares turned it into a piece of scrap"
-
Hermes pulled himself together and looked at me, "Dusk, I can't claim you immediately. It increases the risk of monsters..."
"Yeah, Well, I already had them after me. Not that you'd care, but I was eight when that harpie attacked. And ten when I saw my first hellhound. You could've at least given me a sign! And what about...what about my mom!" My voice cracked, "What about HER! I never even knew her...I didn't even know what gender my godly parent was! Couldn't you have told me?"
Hermes shook his head sadly, "Your mother was beautiful. I wish you could have seen her." -
(Wah...Lone, you're making me cry, stop it!)
Malcom: "Don't worry, Zair." I asured her. "We'll make it right." -
"Okay. So, start with the frame. Make the layers no thicker than 1 1/2 inches. Make at least 3 layers"
-
I glared at him and did something that surprised myself; I stepped forward and punched him in the stomach. He just stared at me, totally unaffected.
"Dusk, listen-"
I cut him off, "I don't care what you have to say! I-" I could feel my eyes starting to fill, "just leave me alone." I turned around and furiously blinked back the tears, trying to find my cabin in the misty gloom. When I looked again, Hermes was gone. -
I still stood at the doorway, shocked. "Drew?"
"What?" She snapped. I shook my head and smiled. "Never mind."
I was about to close the door, but saw Dusk. I glanced back, and ran outside. "Dusk!" I called.
Annabeth: I turned to my siblings and clapped my hands. "You hear that, people? Let's get to work!" I went over to the mound of aluminum. "Mads, Lanadon, we need this to be 1 1/2 inches thick. Let's get started." -
I felt my heart sink. "What?" I called back, shoving my hands into my pockets and not looking at her.
