No the egg actually because of evolution there was no chicken then as some animal slowly changed over time into the chicken you at some point have to pick a cut off point of what is and isn't a chicken so a not quite chicken lays an egg and the egg hatches in to the first actual chicken.

The only flaw with my logic is that the mother of the first chicken would be very similar cause the way evolution works it is slowly small mutations made with each new baby but so you would simply make that cutoff point at the generation that had the most change from its parents.
