I've been trying to figure this out, because I actually feel like I can be in a place of happiness in my life for once. But the songs I write are usually angry, dark, and introspective. So I don't really know how to write music with a positive message. I'm not talking happy Black Eyed Peas s---, but something like Three Days Grace or Breaking Benjamin that finds something positive in the face of adversity. So I'm in a bit of an experimental phase I suppose.

thisismyquiz JuniorYeah, this isn't easy for me either... I mostly write when I'm upset.
So... I feel your pain. And best wishes to you. -
I listen to Jrock. Kra, An Cafe, and SuG are great bands for happy songs. x3 Of course, I don't think it's your kind of music.
Or Ai Otsuka. xD She has such a cute voice, I can't listen to her music and be sad. -
More than anything I don't listen to Jrock simply because it is in another language, and also I just haven't had a chance to get into it.

I have a feeling you would love Dir en Grey. They're really hardcore and even gaining a lot of standing in America.

dw1996 NewbieIt's possible to write good songs when you're happy. Van Halen and AC-DC aren't "deep" bands, but their music still kicks ass. I would say the best music to write when you're happy should be about getting lucky or getting wasted.

That would depend on the happy subject. I write a lot of really happy and silly songs so it's easier for me to do so rather than depressing angry songs. (Which I would love to learn to write..)
