Music means different things to different people. Even if I don't like the sound or subject content of a song or artist, doesn't mean it's not music. I just like what I like, and it doesn't bother me when others like what they like. x3

It's one of those things where people think they're the only ones that are right. They think that "You don't like what I like, so what you like is stupid."

My philosophy teacher in high school had an interesting way of adressing this issue. To prove that it is possible for one thing to be better than another, regardless of opinion, he played a home video of his 2-year-old son playing guitar very badly, then asked if his son was a better guitar player than Jimi Hendrix.
There is music with no intrinsic value whatsoever. This includes electronic music that truly only exists for the purpose of creating a soundtrack for an ecstacy bender. I'm sorry, but if you listen to this music and you aren't on drugs, something is seriously wrong with your head. And just so we're clear, I'm not exclusively persecuting dubstep kids. I would say the same thing about people who like cruddy, unintelligent rap music or people who like country music. -
Something must be wrong with my head then. :3
I don't listen to dubstep or really any American electronica anyway. I know there's some good electronic music out there that doesn't sound like a nail on a chalk board. 'Talented music' is just simply someone making something sound good, no matter what their medium is. -
And saying digital music isn't any good is like saying digital art isn't good either. Too general.
This is crappy digital art:
This is amazing digital art:

I hate most electric music
but some is actually very good, and I agree with what Ana's saying
and it's a major piss off when people use 'IT ISN'T REAL MUSIC' to bash other peoples music. -
Honestly, though, I don't hear any difference between crappy electronic music and good electronic music. It all sounds the same. And like I said, it isn't art, but rather just something made to play in the background while you trip on drugs.

Personally, I think everything is art.
In music, it's in two forms: poetic and..the music part
in electronic music, it's pretty much the same except it's arranged differently, but with lyrics, some can be pretty amazing, I found a song about prostitution with electronic backing music and I don't think that it should be discriminated just because it's part of the whole electronic music s---. What's considered art is incredibly debatable. -
No, sorry, not everything is art. If I throw my feces on a paper and put it in a gallery, that does not make it art. When did everyone become so tolerant and numb to everything? I know our society thinks it's nice and cuddly to except everyone and everything, but society is wrong. Value hate. Value anger. I don't know if you're repressing it or if you've truly had it flushed out of your system, but either way it is sickening to me how much people are willing to conform and just not care.
-
ALMOST everything is art. Like I said, it's debatable. There's a man who gets on stage to get shot multiple times, he goes to the hospital, then he comes back to get shot again, yet it's still considered art.
I love the art community. That's the only time I'm incredibly accepting towards things. As long as it required decent effort, I'd f---ing say it's art, even if it was a poorly drawn cartoon. If that's the best they can do then that works for me. -
That sounds like t-ball to me. "You don't have to do the best, you just have to do YOUR best!" Sorry, but the world is not t-ball. Everyday is a competition with a billion other people to be the best at something. If you want a job that doesn't require you to break your back, you sure as hell better try and be better than everyone else.
-
I didn't say I was going to laze around and not try to better everyone, I'm just accepting towards everything in the art community :P
-
I agree with Carri because there are different levels of art
-
Art isn't always a career. Anyone can do art. Art is purely what a human sees it to be. That's my belief, at least. Of course their are better artists and musicians, or at least ones that put more effort into what they do, but in the end opinions will vary. I just find it pointless to argue with someone on who's music is better. I just listen to what I like. In my world, my taste is better, but it's not for anyone.
