Thread Topic: Can I get some sympathy here?

So I've got a piano recital coming up on June 16th and of course I am not ready at all. I've only had my pieces for about three months anyway, and stress is starting to kick in. I probably will have to practice around three or four hours a day instead of the usual two hours to get ready in time ._.
But these are my pieces, if anyone cares:
-- This is the reallllly hard one that I am just now getting over the hump. It's almost all memorized but there are still some parts to clean up.
The other three that aren't nearly as bad:
-- This one is actually really pretty and sort of fun, except I keep messing up on the arpeggios :/
-- Beethoven and I are besties <3 There is only one part that's really hard to memorize, but most of the hard part is getting the right "tone." My teacher is a stickler :P
-- And this one is so easy it's almost insulting xD
So yeah. Any fellow pianists/musicians who share my pain at all, or are y'all completely estranged from the classical world? -
I share le pain. :( Piano is hard especially the advanced pieces. Working two hands on different melodies is like wtf why do I do this?
-
okay so I watched all of them holy moly
You said the last piece was so easy its insulting. I think you could apply a similar technique you use to play that right hand part to play the arpeggios. Keep your fingers light, dont tense up, and play. Having a solid warm up helps too. I play all of my scales (at least two octaves) up and down with a metronome, playing eighth notes. Then I play all of the scales in thirds up and down. Its good if you dont want an extensive warm up. I also fEEL panicky for you looking at some these passages. I applaud you if you can play this stuff through, especially that first piece. The only thing that bothered me with the first piece was his eye tracking if that makes sense. I can see his eyes bouncing across the piano or him looking at one hand and not the other. just a thing I have lol (developed it from this video I saw awhile back:
Youre most likely a muchhHH beter pianist than I am because Im self taught, and Ive been playing for over two years. But I am very dedicated and read every book I can get my hands on from top to bottom and watch toNS of courses created by professionals, so I think I know enough to share some tips. (hopefully) I sympathize with you, and I hope you found some of this helpful. -
This is what Ive been working on lately:
Its my favoriteee thing that Ive ever learned, but I do find some parts a bit challenging. -
It doesnt get somewhat difficult until around the two minute mark. I think it has a mix of difficulties in it.

HOLY CRAP I HAVE NOT TALKED TO YOU IN FOREVER HOW ARE YOU
And, thanks for the advice.
That first piece (Prokofiev) sure is crazy XD
I can't play it anywhere near as fast as the professionals but it's coming along sort of.
I have had lessons for over seven years and I've been playing for about ten years total so I guess I'm pretty good by now :P
But yeah, thanks for your input! -
IM TAKING IT DAY BY DAY HONESTLY HELLO HELLO HOW ARE YOU
No problem. I loveee talking about music and piano that I could honestly run my mouth about it all day long.
i cri
Sort of is better than nothing.
wOW Id like to hear you play some day
No problemmmm -
Ok I give up O.O
I've played piano for like 4 years now, and I'm not THAT good.
Whatever you do, it's bound to be more amazing than if I attempted it. Lol -
Call me stupid but the piano is a hella easy instrument. It's not difficult to play, the choice of song is difficult is all. That's like insinuating any song on the piano is hard to play.
-
Fair enough. I mean, obviously any two-year-old can walk up to a piano and produce something distantly related to music with no previous training, just by banging on the keys. It's not like the flute where you have to practice for weeks just developing a special embrochure (I have no idea how to spell that lol). Since piano is a percussion instrument--it is NOT a stringed instrument people!!!--, it is in a way simpler. By easy versus hard I am mostly referring to the specific pieces that I am working on, that's all.
