Trick r treat is one of my favorites for Halloween movies. Somewhat gorey but overall a good character development and story line in it.

I know this one really isn't considered much of a horror movie to most people but I'd say Beetlejuice is another great fil to watch exspecially for beginners in the horror and tim burton fandoms.

Another recommendation for horror films is gremlins exspecially if ur new to the horror genre sense it's not overly scary or gorey but still a good movie to watch.
