And before you say 'Oh well Happy Deathday had a slasher villain' let me remind you I said a GOOD slasher villain. No one from any of todays horror flicks are memorable in any way. Why have we not found the new Freddy or Jason Voorhees?
I'm just very disappointed with the lack of effort put into todays horror films.
What do ya'll think? -
Watch foreign films or older films
Netflix also has a few pleasant surprises like Family Blood. -
the1andonly Newbiei think it's pretty hard to make a good horror film nowadays because the greatest villains can never be recreated. michael myers, pennywise, freddy krueger, leatherface, etc etc are all iconic in their own way. all the new horror movies are just s---ty recreations of the past so you get crap like happy deathday where there's no meat or depth to the story. like you gotta remember horror movies were originally made to give people scares they could focus on outside of the real world. big bads and s--- were to represent outside stuff like war and violence. there's still things going on today but it's stuff that's better highlighted in dramas or psych flicks. unfortunately american horror movies have become recycled, tasteless bs that consumers eat up simple because theyre horror movies and they wanna be scared. A good, new slasher villain is something to look forward to but probably unlikely. ghosts, paranormal s---, and all that wack are the new craze

Modern horror movies are so cliched now

You have to remember, that we only remember the memorable or 'good' horror movies. There's been plenty of godawful horror flicks in every decade, since horror has been a substantial film genre.
Also, horror has been changing, not because its bad, but it's evolving with how society changes. While nothing is original, the way it's portrayed is, and I feel horror nowadays works with more abstract concepts than before, or subverts old concepts in new ways- two films I can name off the top of my head being the babadook and the boy, respectfully in that order. Horror is changing as society does, and if you don't like it, that's fine, I can't say most horror movies nowadays are hits for me either, 'least we got the old ones
... if none of that made coherent sense that's because I'm half asleep lmao
