redawn Newbiesomeone said difference between rap and poetry, is that rap is used for entertainment, were as poetry is more personal.

'nuff said.
But on a serious note, Rap as a whole has degraded. It's not music. It's repetitive synthesized beats played rhythmically over and over again while someone talks really fast into a microphone.
It isn't classy because of the amount of vulgarity ensued with it.
It isn't music because of the lack of talent required.
And calling it poetry would be an insult to poetry.
If anything I would say it falls under a very small sub-genre of poetry. -
redawn Newbiebut rap was originally made to give people without a voice, a fighting chance against oppression.
take the Caribbean for instance...they add raps to their reggae in cuba and jamica to point out in equality while their giving the people a little circus...
