DaughterOfApollo NoviceIt's about how 24 people (12 boys and 12girls) that are ages from 12-18 that go to this arena and they have to kill each other. And there are 12 districts. And how they decide who goes in the games is when every person from those ages have their name put into this big bowl (one for the girls and one for the guys) and then someone picks out a name.

miumiutheemu NoviceHave you read the books? Because otherwise the film is quite confusing. Basically, it's about how the government splits up America (renamed Panem) into 13 districts, but there's a rebellion, so district 13 is (supposedly) blown up. Then, as punishment, each district has to offer up a boy and a girl between the ages of 12 to 18 to go into a fight to the death- the Hunger Games. To cut a long story short, the books and film follow a girl named Katniss Everdeen as she volunteers to go in the Hunger Games to replace her sister.

miumiutheemu NoviceAnd it's basically (I'm just rewording what madid said here) showing how "evil" humans can be, by showing how little some care that they'e putting 24 people into a fight to the death. And (to quote the film) as Effie Trinket says "that's MAHOGANY!", showing that she cares more about the fact that someone thas just slammed a knife into a table than the fact that that person is probably going to die within the next week or so.
