There were two children in a divorced family, a hard working mother and a heavily drinking father. The children looked alike like twins, but different in age.
The eldest boy, Jade, was under blankets on his laptop, checking emails and playing games. His sister Senri was looking out the window at the night sky and the winter snow drifting down and swirling around. They were both in a hotel in London their father lived in, their mother on a business trip.
Jade knew his mysterious sister more than anyone else. Nobody could understand Senri, she was so quiet and shy, but creative. Jade was close to his sister, they were insperable and tight. Senri started mumbling something, and Jade was getting annoyed.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
"Wishing upon the snow," she remarked.
"I thought you wish upon stars,' Jade said.
"That's different," Senri whispered.
"What are you wishing for?"
"You know,"
"Know what?"
She looked away. "I'm wishing for mum and dad to get together again," she said quietly.
He sighed. "Senri..," Jade began.
He was interrupted by hard laughing coming from the kitchen.
"He's drinking again," Senri turned away.
Their father was a heavy drinker, drinking more than five glasses of alchohol. They had to be in another room when he drank, because when their father was drunk he would be insane. One time they were together and he drank about ten glasses of wine and started screaming and throwing things at them. Their father started drinking when he moved out of their house when he divorced with their mother. -
It was a long night. The wind rattling against the windows and their father laughing and groaning and making out with another woman he invited over. Their mother didn't know about their father bringing woman in and making out with them, and Jade and Senri didn't tell her otherwise they wouldn't be able to see their father anymore. Senri crawled into Jade's bed, scared and Jade was terrified as well and was glad of the company of his sister.
They shivered the whole night, and finally around one in the morining they fell asleep.
Senri awoke first, tired and sleepy. She got out of bed, changed slowly, then went outside of the room. She walked to the elevator and pressed the button, then went inside. She felt someone calling to her, whispering her name and giving her directions, and was obeying the voice confused and still tired. The elevator went down the lobby, and she walked outside. It was very early, she noticed as she trudged through the snow. The snow was dirty and mushy and her boots made crunching noises and she walked across it. It wasn't snowing anymore, but it looked like it was going to rain soon. Their were buildings everywhere, and it was cold and dark, but she went on, just walking.
Senri, come here, help me, find the book, save us all. Senri, please over here, please, dear Senri come, come please, come. I beg you to , the voice said in her mind.
Senri then slipped, sprawling into the freezing snow and dirt, and it was so cold it hurt. She became all numb, and got up still eager to follow the voice.
She walked around an alley, passing streetlights and houses. She walked across town, studying the streets and buildings, passing sewers and more streetlights. She went around houses and other hotels and parked cars and trudged around shops and stores crammed with canned meat, umbrellas, books, pens, candy, plates, silverware, furniture, clothes, rugs, pillows, uniforms, stickers, erasers, pencil boxes, scissors, blow dryers, hats and many more things with ads and signs all around the front of the stores.
Senri then stopped in an alley, hearing the voice louder and closer. She walked slowly, cautiously, scared slightly but excited. It was dark, so dark that she couldn't see her hand in front of her. She walked more, hearing noises and her feet trudging through the snow. Then she walked on a dry surface, no snow, but it seemed soft a little. She kept walking, her heart beating fast, pictures flying through her head. She wanted Jade, and stopped and looked around. She suddenly realized she didn't know where she was, she was lost. She started shaking, and was about to go back, but then when she turned around there was only darkness. She kept going forward, and then saw sunlight. She ran toward it, thinking it was then end of the alley. It wasn't but instead a forest. Green trees surrounding her and soft dirt under her feet. Jasmines and roses and sunflowers were growing everywhere, and she kept walking. The wind rattled in the trees, and Senri saw a chest next to one tree. A chest? She walked toward it, and put her hands on it, but noticed it had a key lock. She tried to open it, but it was locked, so she searched for the key, and saw a hollow hole in one tree. She put her hand inside, and felt around to feel something smooth. She picked it up, and happily saw it was the key! She ran bac to the chest, and put the key in the hole, and turned the key. She began to pull the chest open.
Senri woke up. She got up and looked around, she was still in bed with Jade, and it was morning. She was confused, it was all a dream, but it felt so real. She snuggled back into the blankets, and feel asleep again wih no dreams. -
Jade woke up later, and woke up Senri too. Today there mother was taking them back, and they were moving because of her job. Her mother described the home to them on the phone. It was old, but filled with stuff in the attic, and there were many things to explore. The house belonged to a man who bought it as a wedding gift for his wife, seventy years ago. Jade and Senri tryed to be happy about it, but was sad to leave their father.
Their mother parked outside and honked her horn, she didn't like coming inside to see their father. They started to gather their stuff.
Their father was on a chair. "The move will be good for you, go explore," he said.
The kissed him and ran down the flight of stairs instead of taking the elevator. They ran outside to see their smiling mother in the car. They got in, and drove to their new home. It was a long ride, and Senri fell asleep.
She woke up, in a dark room. It was dark and cold. She got up, wondering if this was her new room in her home. She found a door and opened it, to lead to a hall and a flight of stairs leading down to the left. Senri walked slowly across a red rug and went left to the stairs. Candles were on shelves, brighting up the place. She walked down the stairs, one by one, then went inside a kitchen, and saw a closet. She opened it to see nothing. She walked into the living room and saw a wardrobe. -
