i'm going to start with the prologue
Prologue
The history of a world named, Radze is mapped out by plights and wars rather then dates and years. There are many such battles, famines, plagues, and natural disasters that achieved a place in history and many stories sprang from each one. Some were true; others were not so accurate, while still others were just fairytales filled with fantastical creatures, heroes, romance, and plots. But some, not many, but some of these ancient occurrences were so magnificent, so awesome, that they became legend. Passed down from generation to generation while losing none of there truth, because the story is already so powerful that the tellers would be ashamed to change even one detail. The story I have to tell is one of the few legends filled with splendor, yet every bit as truthful as the first scribes wrote. It starts with…Fire!
Fire raged up and down the once peaceful fishing settlement of Aton. It filled every house and charred every blade of grass. Those fortunate enough to escape the flames were cut down with heavy swords. Some were making the futile effort to douse the flames, or fight there attackers. Those who did were either cut up, or burned. It was a massacre. High above the havoc the phoenix emperor, Briganoll soared in circles while calling; “Burn it! Burn them all! Kill them!†he was a typical phoenix, about six and a half feet tall, and covered in blazing red feathers trimmed with iridescent blue. His Wings were spread majestically; he carried a scepter made of pure citrine in his hand. In the other he held a curved sword which he cut to and fro through the air. “This is the result of your insubordinate actions for which you will die! No one can match the might of the phoenix empire!†Even as the phoenix emperor spoke the words he knew they had committed no act against his conquest of them as he had said. His real target was the only fire wielder in the realm of Aton, the only threat to his reign, and the phoenix way of life. A wicked smile spread across his face,†their will be no hope for the fire wielder. After all how much trouble could a human child of two years be?†he thought to himself.
Mord, a young, Kougon Knight made her way through the mess of humans that were attempting to resist the phoenix military force. Her mission was simple. She had to protect the sleeping toddler in her arms, and evade capture until she could get to the few boats that were still unharmed by the phoenix attack. Getting through the mob without getting trampled was the least of her problems. The real work would begin when she broke free of the group and started the one mile dash to the docks. Once she was out of the main mess of things she would be vulnerable, and easily discovered. At the edge of the mob she took a deep breath, then called on her soul fire and invoked a battle aura. Rich tan flames leapt from her in all directions, she began to burn like a bonfire. Had it been real flames and not soul fire the heat would have incinerated those near her. She took one last deep breath and lunged out of the crowd. Her strenuous Kougon body toning allowed her to move at an inhumanly speed. She was halfway to the ships when a glance around told her that she had company. Three phoenixes closed in on her. Gently, but swiftly she put the toddler down and drew a sword form her purple desert robes. The blade was three feet long curved geldrite. It was two inches at the bottom and got wider and wider until it opened into five inches. It was essentially silver but when it caught the light it turned to a sort of gray, graphite color. She flicked it menacingly. The phoenixes hesitated, but not for long. After a moment of studying her opponents Mord leapt forward and rolled in mid air. She lashed out with her heavy sword and cut deep into the phoenix’s collar bone. The benefit to having such a powerful and heavy sword is that it will cut clean through bone. Mord did so now. Instead of yanking the blade away she moved it completely through the phoenix’s body. She spun in a complete circle and cut the next phoenix in two, at the waist. The last tried to escape, but Mord was quicker. A small part of the blaze around her body leapt onto the phoenix who was trying to lift off the ground. The flame spread rapidly and consumed its prey. The whole battle was over in less than a minute. Without missing one moment Mord tucked her sword into her cloak, scooped up her charge, and resumed running.
Ogon sat in the Kougan elite council chambers. “I cannot stay amongst you my friends. I cannot stay amongst you when there is one of my own is in danger. I must leave†he declared. “Then do so. It is your right to leave Kougon.†Gellard one of the most revered Kougons pointed out. She spoke again “your presence will be missed as you are one of the best, even amongst the Kougon Elite, but if you wish by are laws you are permitted to leave…and never return.†Ogon bowed deeply to everyone in the chamber carefully touching his head, and knees to the floor, but not his elbows. The bow was returned to him by his piers. “Were will you go?†inquired one of the other Kougon Elites. Ogon’s reply was full of sorrow. “To Druin Mino, the Land of Mighty Magus were Mord and I shall look after The last hope for an oppressed people, until he is old enough to train in the Magic art of Fire.

Lord Zelaron, Grand Magus of the Infinity Force, stood before eight of the most powerful Fire Wielders in all of Radze, all of them grand magus. He stared at each ones face in turn then finally said “I have discovered a very interesting occurrence. I have found a fire wielder amongst the Atonns†He stared at every person once again, pleased with the shock in their faces. “How…how did- I mean…†Lord Rahl’ard of the Prime Force paused for a moment to stop his stammering. “How did you get that information?†Zelaron waited a moment before answering. “as you may well know the phoenix have recently conquered Atonn, and of course the peace-loving Atonns didn’t even put a fight.†His audience shuffled impatiently. “It has come to my attention that the phoenix emperor attacked their main fishing settlement burnt it to the ground and killed any survivors they could find.†This produced a series of surprised gasps. Zelaron smiled to himself, again pleased with their shock. “Of course I was as alarmed as you, so I called on my force and we held a ritual. Using there power I scryed deep into emperor Briganoll’s mind. It would seem that his Fire Wielders sensed the Fire wielders presence before us, and he tried to exterminate him.†Lady Zann’farr of the Creation Force’s voice was smooth and even, she chose her words carefully. “And what do we plan to do with this information?†“Well there are several things we could do if-“ “if we could find him†Lord Con’dragh of the Void Force interrupted him to finish the sentence. Of all the magus Zelaron had worked with over his many years, he hated Con’dragh the most. He was one of the only two in Radze that had a force of magus that could match Zelaron’s. That alone would be reason enough to garner his hatred. Aside from that Con’dragh’s ability with the blade, fist fighting, scribe work, and popularity had exceeded his own since they had first met each other in the same university of fire, the first of three universities you must graduate from to become a magus. Con’dragh blinked in mock surprise. “Surely you did not think you were the only one of the great Fire Wielders to perceive these things.†Zelaron’s eyes narrowed he started to say something demining, then thought better of it. “Neither of you… allowed you’re Force to scry the same events as you…did you?†Lady Ral’hering of the Lighting Force asked, with uncertainty. “No†said Zelaron and Con’dragh at the same time. Lady Zann’farr cleared her throat deeply. “My question stands Lord Zelaron.†Zelaron tried to answer the question but Con’dragh beat him to it. “Well as Lord Zelaron said there are several courses of action we can take. We can attempt an assignation as Emperor Briganoll tried to do, we can ignore him, or we could attempt to incorporate him into one of the forces.†“There is another option†the new voice cut through the air like a knife made of ice. It belonged to Lord Mara Mor’ary of the Dawn Force. Everyone turned to look at him. “There is another option†he repeated. “One of us could take his soul fire. It is common knowledge that the Atonns have no fire wielders, they simply lack the strength. This is why the phoenix chose to enslave those particular people. Any fire wielder that came from Aton would not only be exceptionally strong but a living link to…certain gateways. †“That’s a somewhat macabre idea.†Lord of the Dawn Dragon of the Imperial Force said. “If we do locate him however, and we do not chose to assassinate him or ignore him, then how do we chose which one of us will have his soul fire, or which force he will join?†Gellok of the Storm Force asked. “We will decide when we have found him. No sooner†Declared Lord Mara Mor’ary. For all the hate Zelaron had for Con’dragh it was nothing compared to his fear of Mara Mor’ary. Mara Mor’ary had never met an opponent he could not beat. He had more soul fire than three magus put together. He was a fallen Kougon Elite which meant he had received heavy training in the combat arts. The fact that there were rumors that he was insane didn’t help either, aside from all of this; his appearance alone was enough to drive off most foes. He had a very strong build. And his eyes were icy, his face had no emotion. Even the color of his blood red soul fire was frightening. “Very well†Zelaron concluded. “We shall return to are dwellings and hold rituals until we find are Fire wielder.â€
