Thread Topic: World Building

XShidoKusubanaX NewbieI have this idea for some characters of mi e that are gang members and siblings. This is the kind of world they are in.
A feature timeline in a 'utopian world that decreases to a distopian one. As in there are 90 sections. the first 15 are for the highest classes and richee. It slowly decreases and the sections have specific cultural groups. Section 80 is where tne criminals are. Where my ocs are. The poor get poorer and the rich get richer. -
So it's the hunger games, but with many, many more districts? What's the difference between section 47 and section 48?
How was the world originally a utopia, and how did it become a dystopia?
But I am interested. Tell me more about this setting again. What's the plot? What are the themes? What are the traits of the main characters?
And please don't call your characters 'ocs.' They are characters and should be treated as such. Simply tools to tell the story. -
OC means original character, so does it really matter if she calls them that?
-
Not really, but it's a matter of professionalism. Abbreviations should be kept to a minimum when writing, providing feed-back and brainstorming. On top of making you come off as more intelligent, it also prevents literary confusion and makes you clearer in your writing.
And on a personal note, I've noticed that people who call characters 'ocs' get unnaturally attached to their characters, which makes it all the harder when bad things need to happen to them; or hopefully, when they need to die. -
I always get attached to characters I create. Whether I call them OCs or otherwise. But I can still make bad things happen to them.
I like the story idea! It sounds interesting. -
XShidoKusubanaX NewbieLuna: I do the same thing lol. My OCS(as I will call them because I mean it doesn't matter to me as well.) are very much loved by me and I still make them f---ed up.
IHALOY: It isn't a hunger game. They don't kill eachother every year fr a program made by the government. It's literally a corrupted society full of rich people and criminals. And I'm not going in to detail cause it's merely an idea(and I won't have the answers to your question because of that reason. Plus I ain't even usin them for anything major like a book comic or something. I'm just using them as ocs for ovts(original character tournaments) on deviantArt. Just like my other ones). And not talking about the characters as of yet because I'm just world building right now. Plus, since it is just an idea I'm not gonna be all messed up about calling them ocs characters or whatever(as long a I know what I mean). This isn't a time I need to be professional. And I won't until I actually do make a comic of my own one day.
Thank you for killing my vibe. -
But they fight to the death in tournaments (OVTs), and live in districts separated by wealth. That's pretty much Hunger Games condensed to a T.
Though if you wanted a setting that's full of corrupted rich people, why not just set it in the real world? Hell, it might actually have some depth then.
And finally, I'm trying to help you world build. These are valid questions that help expand the world, how can you not have an answer to them? You can't say there are no answers because it's an idea, then turn around and say you're trying to develop it into more. These questions develop the world!
But fine, fine, I can concede. Tell me about your characters than.
(P.S. I live to kill vibe. I'm glad to see it's going well.) -
Oh wait, wait, slow down. OVTs are like...like best character contests, aren't they? Where everyone submits a character and then the best is crowned the winner, isn't it? My bad.
I still don't see the point of having different tangible wealth districts though. That just screams Hunger Games at me. -

XShidoKusubanaX NewbiePff I miss spelled that. OCT* They are on Deviantart xP I'm in one now called Distortion which is a pokemon based one.
There are usually 6 rounds in one and you just draw or write(if they allow written submission, most don't) Depending on what the round wants.. They usually take months to finish the OCT group. The one I was in before has been going on since july, and right now is currently on the 5th round.
I'm currently working on a comic for distortion. And its a battle, so i'm drawing a battle. If you have the best submission for that round, you go to the next, if you don't, then you don't go to the next round. -
Meh, IHLAOY does make some interesting points.
-
And you think Hunger Games was the first to come up with that idea?
-
No, but it was the one to popularize the setting.
-
XShidoKusubanaX Newbiemguygf it's not hunger games though.. -done trying to explain-
btw battle royale is better
