Well, for us, on Cinco de Mayo, we put on our best Sunday clothes, go outside with some friends, and together we Brazilian hardwood (EW NO) the first French person we see.
And in Mexico City, people go to the one of the many beautiful French palaces there are, and we burn it down while with the flames we make tacos.
And we do the exact same thing on Independence day. We find a Spaniard and do it to them.
Then we burn down a Spanish palace and make churros in the flames.
Okay, no. I'm just being horrible. In reality, for Cinco de Mayo, we just do the whole National Anthem chant. Then a parade of some sort.
Well, that's in San Juan del Rio, Durango. Not in D.F.
Then for Independence Day, in Mexico City, people gather and they sing and do all this nice stuff.
And fire guns. Especially that. -
xD Sounds awesome.
Well, I'm American of course, so we have to do everything 'big and over the top yo!'. But really, holidays for my family are just staying at home and being together, perhaps making delicious food and decorating. That's why I love Christmas, when you ignore all the commercial parts of it, it's nice at home. :3
St. Patrick's Day would count for my Irish heritage, but my brother celebrates it more than we do. (He likes drinking. o3o)
Often times during Christmas we sing German Christmas carols and cook Germanish food stuff. It's all good until my mom makes cabbage. o3o I not a fan of that, lol. -
Awwww. x3 That sounds so nice and peaceful. Celebrating with family is always the best. You know, when they get along.
And ew, I no likey cabbage either. -
New year's- We drink Arbor Mist and make end of the world theories while staring at the stars. I for one, love to go out in a bikini in the cold.
Valentine's day- We make jokes about how stupid a holiday it is, except for the chocolate, and then we eat chocolate until we puke.
St. Patrick's Day- We eat cabbage and corned beef (I only eat corned beef) and I tell everyone that St. Patrick was an engineer.
Easter- We go to church at 5 in the morning to watch the sun rise and do the worship service around the bonfire, then go down to Arkansas for the Easter egg hunt at Grandparent's house.
Mother's day- Get a cake for Mom.
Father's day- Visit Dad.
4th of July- Campfires, summer food cookout, and fireworks. Occasionally shoot explosive targets. Or launch rockets with plastic Army men on them.
Halloween- Dress up as whatever and eat buttloads of candy.
Thanksgiving- Eat an assload of food, like turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffed bell peppers, and stuffing.
Christmas- Open presents, stockings, eat a feast like on Thanksgiving, make zombie and Star Trek themed cookies, visit Grandparents, eat a butt ton of chocolate, and watch movies like Home Alone and Anastasia. -
dw1996 NewbieAmerican Holidays:
Super Bowl Sunday: Everyone watches football, gets drunk, and stuffs their face with food.
Thanksgiving: Everybody watches football, watches parades, and stuffs their face with food.
St. Patricks Day: Everyone gets drunk and watches parades.
I'm starting to see a bit of a trend here. -
Yes, luckily my family basically consists of my parents, brother and me so we get along well.
It's so stinky. :o
As do I, dw. xD -
St. Patty's day we always go to this one small, but popular restraunt. We're a friend of the owner and he always teases us about being human leprechauns.
