Thread Topic: Announcement on the Topic of Suicide
-
Due to recent actions shown by several GoToQuiz users over the course of the past week as well as instances over the years, moderators will now be marking overly obvious posts towards users wanting to commit suicide that seem to be provoking them to continue with the action. This means if you are posting things such as;
"Go kill yourself!"
"Just do it already"
"You're late, buddy."
"The world would be better without you."
"Don't come back then!"
"Tell (someone) I said hi in (hell/heaven)"
It will be marked offensive and deleted. This action counts as harassment. Additionally, as with the smut rule we slammed down not too long ago, you can get into legal trouble if the person you're antagonizing actually does commit suicide. Police and parents of the user can count it as manslaughter. So, for your protection, and for the protection of the users who are posting about it, we are now taking action.
"Where's the proof, moderators?"
1. "According to California Penal Code 401, the assisted suicide law, if you give in to this very human temptation and deliberately aid, advise, or encourage another to commit suicide, you are in fact committing a felony offense" -
2. This one backs up the above and is a .gov site:
3.
Several other states have laws on assisting/provoking suicide. Some less reliable sources admit that on the internet, you're more likely to be punished (considering there is hard evidence of what you've said) than in a case in real life.
How can you avoid this? As I mentioned in my rant, if someone says they want to commit suicide, DON'T press the submit button if you wouldn't say that same line to someone IRL. DON'T press the submit button if you think it will make that person feel worse. Either say something encouraging them to stop/giving them help, or say nothing at all. -
even without the bit about legal trouble, it's still an a--hole-ish thing to do!!! and its harassment! So don't!!!! Do it!!!! Or your posts will be marked lol
-
Wow. I missed a lot. But thank you, this is pretty important.
-
I agree with every posts above. Harassment must be erased, as it actually breaks the rule of humanity. If we encourage someone to commit suicide, it means that we KILL him, not SAVE him. Moreover, killing is a sin. Besides, killing someone indirectly is also a criminality.
I do believe this replies to "someone" who commits suicide are also harassments:
1. "Your life doesn't matter to us!"
2. "Good bye..."
3. "See you later..."
4. Sarcasm and any related things.
5. Replies that mock or showing disrespect towards the "someone" that might possibly turning him angry and hopeless. -
Can I still tell people who aren't suicidal to kill themselves? This is important.
Also, is it really harassment if it's the truth? If I tell a suicidal person that I literally don't care about them at all, and I literally don't care about them at all, am I still guilty of harassment even if the intent isn't there?
And, what do I do if my country doesn't actually have laws against harassment and is, in fact, barely stable as it is?
Also, this new rule is dumb as s---, and you're dumb as s--- for making it. -
I'm sure you can but it's still pretty rude of you to say. What do you gain from telling someone to kill themselves? Satisfaction of their reaction?
Yes, it is. Because if you tell someone the "truth" and it ends up causing someone to kill them self, it's still on you, intentional or not. If it causes them pain even if it is the truth, it's on YOU.
Actually not too sure on that one- I'll get back on you on that, but does that honestly give you a right to say such things to another anyway?
Aww, thanks, love. If you don't like it you're certainly free to leave the site. -
>someone doesn't like a rule you created
>"leave the site"
They don't have to "leave" if they find complications with the rule you set up. This site isn't yours, so please stop overreacting at every tiny thing like a 6th grade child and stop the condescending act.

Mostly it's an insult to express how disgusted or incredibly annoyed I am at someone. I rarely mean it. It's attention grabbing and fluently expresses my emotions. And, as I always say when this topic is brought up, if someone is so affected by what an idiot with a pony avatar says about them on a website dedicated to quizzes, they have much bigger issues to worry about. Getting ACTUAL help for one.
Surely it's more dangerous to deny the truth than it is to accept it and try to change it, yes? I admit, I could be liable, but running from reality rarely helps a person. One must face it and grow a tougher spirit.
Legally, yes. Morally, I don't see it as worse than any other insult.
Hey, I'm just against any rule the limits what I can and can't say, no offense. I'm an emotional girl, I use strong words, I don't believe in silencing those words just because someone might be 'hurt' by them. Any rule that tries to police me like that is stupid, because sometimes, people need to hear strong words and strong insults. Censoring what people say never works, because they'll just find new ways to say it.
Also if, as you say, several users are acting like this, surely you're acting against the interests of the people on the site by acting against it? -
@1714: Dark used "if" which means it's a conditional sentence, it's NOT an exclamation sentence or a command.
@IHLAOY: Acting against users who are not committing suicide doesn't kill them, but users acting against user who is committing suicide might kill them. That's why the expression could lead into a devastating incident, even though they're accidental or habit, it can still lead to an incident. Therefore, you must take your responsibility in law, moral, social and religion. -
If you don't want people telling people to kill themselves, stop the whiny c---s who talk about killing themselves.
-
Damn Geek, how do you always manage to nail it with a single post? That's impressive.
That's why the expression could lead into a devastating incident
ANY expression could lead to a devastating incident. That doesn't mean we should stop communicating entirely. Me criticizing someone's story could lead to a devastating incident. Me breaking up with my boyfriend could have lead to a devastating incident. Me not telling someone to NOT kill themselves could lead to a devastating incident. But I don't just sit in the corner and not say or do anything because something bad might happen as a result of it. That's emotional blackmail, in its purest form.
If someone was so mentally unstable that me telling them to kill themselves was what set them off, than they were so mentally unstable that ANYTHING would have set them off. Just think about how crazy you sound. Someone reads words on a screen, from someone they've never met, who is using a pony avatar, on a website dedicated to quizzes and is so upset, they purposefully take their own life. It's ridiculous. And if you're that mentally broken, you have bigger issues to worry about than a woman online.
Back to censorship, you can't just draw a line in the sand and say 'yes, that's where it is. You can call someone worthless, say they'll be forgotten, say that no one loves them, say that the world is better without them, but GOD FORBID you tell them to kill themselves. That's where the LINE is.' It's all or nothing, and nothing is the death of conversation. -
IHLAOY is still alive. O.O
Bestie, I agree. ^â—‡^
And that's why I hate this site... The main topic is about something something with suicide and people are debating on other topics (yeah, me included.) It really looks he mods have no power, even everyone knows they do. -
Why are we arguing about this. I mean you shouldn't convince people to die. There is no point ether than make the victims family and friends suffer. There is also a chance that there family's and/or friends will also committe suicide as well.
-
As moderators, its our job to enforce the rules. And telling someone to kill themselves, if you count it as just any other insult, IHLAOY, its still against the rules. It's an insult, and goes against the very first rule you can very plainly see at the bottom of the page. "Do not harass or insult another person". Plain and simple. Telling someone to die is an insult and harassing them. Therefore, we have to take action against it.
Plus, there's this.
It's harmful, and malicious, and just plain mean. And since you're saying these things, we must delete them because they go against the rules. It's our job to do this. We have to protect the users of this site, especially because there's kids on here. And we want to protect you from legal trouble, if you happen to live in the states.
Plain. And. Simple. -
@Drew, I wasn't overreacting. I merely said that they were free to go if they didn't like what's going on in the site. I'm also trying to genuinely understand their side of the point. I'd rather like to take in both sides. But when I'm being called stupid, well, don't you think I have a right to tease back a bit? You can still get your popcorn but I don't believe you needed to join the.. debate? Argument? idk
@IHLAOY I agree it's attention grabbing when you say it to someone non-suicidal. I'd be a hypocrite to deny you that right when I burst out laughing at the 20 year old YouTube who says "kill yourself" in a lot of his videos. However that's all for entertainment. There comes point where you literally cannot say that to someone. Especially someone who is seriously suicidal. So for the purpose of an argument/comment with someone who is non suicidal, no, I'm not going to tell you to not frustratedly type "kill yourself," and you're even free to tell me to do it right now if it benefits you in any way. Additionally, yes, people do need to get actual help. But they don't sometimes. And young teenagers/young adults often turn to the web for help (mainly forums/chats) even if it's the WORST place they can go to. So, for the sake of letting them have a safe heaven where people aren't going to tease nor coax them into an even more depressed state, we want to keep their environment at least partially open.
That is your own opinion, and I respect that. But for me, personally, telling someone to commit suicide is almost demeaning. It's threatening in some cases. So the morality of it lead to the legality of it, I guess you could say? I'm half asleep so excuse me if that sounded dumb, it probably is. Anyway- like I said, if it's for jokes and the person isn't suicidal, go ahead and throw the insult/joke/comment. We're focusing on threads where people are legit expressing their depression and are getting that s---.
Not taking any offense- other than being called stupid earlier but I'm gonna assume now you were joking or weren't meaning it as harshly as I originally took it. You have rights, I'm not one to take them away. The entire point of this is depending on the context. I've said it several times but I'll reiterate. If it's a serious thread about depression/suicide, don't say anything. However, if someone posts something dumb, and you find to necessary to say go kill yourself, go ahead and do it. Also, I dunno. I haven't seen smut/p--- since our last rule was slammed down. I've seen a few complaints recently but nothing more.
Right now I see three of you, yet I'm aware over seven of us are for this. If it comes to a different point then perhaps we can look over our rule, but if we're going by majority, you lose.
@Geek Posting about how you feel isn't hurting anyone. Telling them that they should go ahead with what they want to do is harassment, not to mention it's a dick move. We can't stop people from being depressed as easily as we can stop people from being a--holes.
