Thread Topic: Moderators, please come here
-
Alright, now I know we're all new to this and feel like we need to use our new power, but I feel that we all need to come to an agreement over what actually calls for moderator attention and what we should at least try to do before we use it.
First of all, we were all gifted these powers because we were seen as level headed and reasonable. Having these powers does not mean we should just skip being reasonable and jump straight to using mod powers. It actually should be the opposite.
1. Seeing a fight is not a reason to use mod powers. Try and settle the dispute peacefully and AT THE MOST use the "mod voice". If you see it spreading or starting to rally a large number of people together, then it is alright to actually step in and do what you need to to calm it.
2. Being rude to someone does not require a deleted post. You can ask them to calm down or lay off the language, but do not delete someone's post just because you don't like what they're saying.
3. If someone comes to you and asks you to delete a post or report a user, get different opinions and find out what's going on before you do anything. You are a person, not a weapon for others to use. Make your own call. The most others can do is try and draw your attention to something. Even if things look bad, try and settle it without using mod powers first.
4. Reporting someone is a form of punishment. No matter how much you dislike someone or what they've done, do not report them simply because you have a personal distaste towards them. It's not a punishment if they haven't done anything immediately wrong. At that point it's just being mean.
5. The only time deleting a post would be immediately acceptable is in the case of rules 5,6 or 7. Deleting a post that falls under any of the other rules is only acceptable if the person who made the posts asks that it be deleted, or a person involved in the post asks it be deleted. Any other special case should be taken on a case by case basis.
If anyone else would like to add to this list or dispute something I've listed, please let them say so. -
I agree. .3.
-
Maybe we could always talk anything over with each other before doing anything that one of the others wouldn't do? I think that might be helpful for me and someone else.
-
I agree with 4, heavily.
-
(Not a mod, but wishing to add something.)
6.) Just because you're a moderator does not mean that you're better than somebody else, or many other people. You got power from GTQ Guy, right? Use it wisely, not irresponsibly, disrespectfully or foolishly. Be careful or your days of being a moderator will be over if you act posh due to being promoted. The world doesn't revolve around you. -
I think what brownie was getting at was be modest. That about sums it up.
-
I also think there should be another rule.
If some-one gets promoted to a small-time Moderator, I don't think they should start getting greedy and asking for a 'promotion'. Honestly, I think Moderators should be controlled with what-ever force necessary to keep them from starting a flame-war, and let them either be pleased with their gift, or work hard to EARN the promotion. -
Well I agree. We should act professionally after all it's the least we can do to thank everyone. Especially gtq guy for allowing us the honor of being trusted to help this site stay amazing. But we should get to gather every once in a while to check up on each others progress ect. And possibly we could have meetings with others on the site to hear there opinions an ect
-
Appay, yep I missed that in my list of "5,6 or 7"
Joker, I must have missed something about promoted mods? I didn't hear anything about them. Or I just missed that while I was reading. -
mcqueen that sounds like a reasonable idea.
-
Oh! GTQ Guy is making a forum or something like that for the mods. For a meeting, when or if we get more info on that, that's probably the best spot to do it.
-
Oh, I made that sentence rather tricky. I meant the level system. If a Moderator becomes a Moderator, I don't think they should wish to become a higher level then they already are, unless they have been doing an exceptionally swell job. You hear me?
-
All mods are of equal power. There is no level system for mod privileges. If you mean user level, it's not tied to mod privileges at all.
-
And again, I made it rather tricky... Wow, I am not good at describing things...
What I meant is the level system with "Newbie, Novice, Junior, Experienced, Advanced..." etc., etc.. If they become a mod, I don't think they should be able to advance a level SOLELY because they're a mod, like upgrading from Senior to Hot Shot. You get me now? -
I don't think we can do that anyway. .w.
