I dont think it's as much of a joke as you think. Honestly, Appay, you may not do it on a dating site, but I've seen you get into character as a Klingon several times. Different Treckie interests might make them want to be Vulcan, and different personalities might make them want to go to a dating site. They arent that different from you.
